Beware the wind.Originally planned to tent camp for three nights but we only stayed for one. There is very little shade at the campground with some sites having none (such as ours). The ground is very hard and rocky, making it difficult to get tent stakes into the ground. What caused us to leave, however, is the absolutely brutal wind that came at night and blew well into the morning. It sounded like our tents were being torn apart. It's no wonder most people were in camper vans. In hindsight, the canyon becoming a giant wind tunnel at night makes sense. However, because tent camping was clearly not as popular, it's difficult to come across mention of the wind in reviews or discussions unless you're looking for it already.

Great views with close to trails and water. Also walking distance to museum and nature center with shutter bus stop so convenient with spcious campsites. Had a great time star gazing too.

Well marked campsites. Clear surroundings. Bathrooms not bad, could be cleaner. Showers would be highly appreciated.

Site didn't have much of any shade (spot 104), but location inside the park was great: easy to get around and facilities were well maintained. Make sure to get up early to beat the crowds at the shuttle stops and trails.

Amazing location, walking distance to the village and shuttle. Lots of space between campsites.Bathrooms were not very clean, and there is no sink to wash dishes in, which makes cooking more difficult. Also very odd to have firebowls at each campsite but if you want firewood, you have to get it elsewhere. Overall worth it for the incredible views and location but lots could be improved.

Campground was well taken care of. Rangers were very helpful. Bathrooms were regularly stocked and clean water was accessible. I didn't realize it before booking but the wind at night can be pretty intense. One of our tents was almost knocked over from the high gusts. Highly recommend this spot and will definitely be returning.

South Campground fine for RVs, not so great for tents. Our site too close to bathrooms and dumpster; ground rock and hard; sites are very close to one another. Making a reservation wasn't easy; Zion is just too popular. Easy to see why, scenery and hikes were amazing. If you are tent camping, try for the walk-in sites along the river--only a few, but they are the best.

South Campground was simply one night of an 8 day road trip which brought me into 3 national parks. I needed one sure, camp site and this is why I reserved one night. I actually wanted two nights, but Zion apparently fills up even after Labor Day and that was first week following Labor Day. Process was not difficult--I did it by phone reservation after checking availability online. Actual check-in at the campground was at the camp entrance with a live host present whom could also direct me to my site (as South CG is large.) And also to where shuttle busses stop and where to find schedules for busses. As for the camp itself, it would sure be nice if at least one place in Zion had showers as many of us are out hiking in hot weather for days. And paper towels would still be much better than air dryers for hand drying in restrooms.

Nice campground, with easy access to bus system. Windy in the summer! When the days are hot and the nights are cool in the canyon, there is a strong wind! All of our fiberglass tent poles were broken. All shades and hammocks and things need to be put away every night or they will be torn to shreds. The tent stayed up, but it was toast. Zion is beautiful and has a lot of great trails and we are glad we went.
