The other reviews are helpful, but here's a few more details. Really enjoyed the campground and Yosemite. However, the lights from the nearby bathroom are on motion timers, so expect to have the site illuminated most of the time after dark until very late evenings. Made it hard to really enjoy a camp fire, and those have to end by 10pm. Also, as mentioned, there are NO trees so lots of sun during the day and also no close trees to hang a line and tarp to block the restroom lights or block passers-through, although there weren't too many. Parking was better than expected and we backed a full size extended pickup with an 18-foot trailer in (40-feet total end-to-end), and still had room for a second pickup next to the other. Also, the direct view of Half Dome from the table was great! I would also highly recommend taking bikes to get around to trailheads, Curry Village, etc.

Site 401 has its pros and cons. Pros- you CANT beat being in the park and so close to Curry Village. Being able to wake up in the valley with your own parking spot with trailheads and Curry Village within walking distance cant be beat. I pity the people reliant on the shuttle and having to hassle for parking. For the most part everyone was respectful of quiet hours between 10pm-6am. Cons- site 401 isnt ideal. Its right near the bathrooms which meant several people walked through our campsite. They stopped after we politely asked, just annoying. The site is also across from several trash and recycling bins. Both of these things meant light and noise until about 10:30-11pm every night. Were hikers and in bed for hikers midnight (9pm). The site is a decent size and a bit offset from other sites so didnt feel cramped. No shade- hot tent and hot beatbox. Bear box was a great size- use it! Everything goes in it even gum wrappers! Its walkable distance from Mist Trail head, mirror lake, and curry village. The shuttles were miserably crowded so just walk the distances

Every hour in Yosemite is special, but I would remind those in space 401 that there is NO shade. You're out there all by your lonesome to bake when the sun comes out. Also something to think about; the bear container for food now becomes an oven and you'll most certainly go through a lot of ice in your cooler because it melts fast. My neighbors at 402 were smart and put up an umbrella to shade the bear container and I'm sure that helped.

Clean bathrooms. Big site close to everything we wanted to do. Beautiful view of the back of half dome.
