If you are looking for a quiet, basic campground to serve as a home base while in Yellowstone, this is the place. Sites are all in good shape, well maintained. Bathrooms are cleaned regularly. On the outskirts of the campground there is access to plenty of fallen dead trees for firewood, if you bring a small (8-12 inch) hand saw. The Camp Hosts and Rangers are very picky about everything, but will talk to you and warn you first if some corrective action needs to be takes. We stayed one week (end of Jun - early July) and had a bison walk literally right next to our campsite one evening. Grizzly bears visited the campground regularly - typically very early in the morning when it is quiet. The sniff around and leave if nothing is to be found. That is why EVERYTHING with odor must be stored in your vehicles or the spacious steel bear boxes at each campsite. Leave nothing out - food, ice chests, water bottles, stoves, pots, silverware, wash basins, even toiletries. Do not store in your tent, but in your vehicle. It was very cold a few nights - down in the low 30's. Bring warm sleeping bags and wear layers at night. Days were in the 60's and 70's. Plan for some rain, plan for even a thunderstorm with hail. Weather changes quite rapidly, so the weather predictions need to be checked at local visitor info stations regularly. Also, be friendly and talk to your neighbors - they can tell you about fun places to visit or where they saw wildlife. Indian Creek campground is located in the northwest section of the park - approx 10 minute drive to Mammoth area for gas, stores, ice, etc.

Even though the campground sign said full there were empty sites every night for the entire 14 days we were there. Do not get sites near the vault toilets. Campers who did, left early because of the smell. One of the camp hosts was not friendly, as we witnessed him yelling at campers several times. The new campfire rings are too tall making attached grill unusable to cook on. No generators allowed makes this a quiet campground. With a bit more care & improvements this would be a really great campground.

Quiet, clean, and beautiful. Small sites so plan accordingly. Trust what they say for size and don’t think you’ll have room for anything more-the measurements are accurate!
