Sandy was a wonderful and helpful host. Because of her advice we were able to get tickets for the cave tour we wanted so we could join friends.

Elk mountain is such a beautiful campground! My partner and I had a great time and enjoyed the quiet. The park host, Sandy, was lovely and answered all questions. The nighttime ranger lead programs were amazing! They even offer a wifi spot at the front of the campground so you can book a cave tour! The only downside to the campground is there is no shower. Other than that, it is an amazing place to stay and explore the surrouding area!

Good drinking water available (at high pressure - no pumping required), very clean bathrooms with flush toilets, mowed grass campsites. Wildlife viewing at the campground entrance. Located near visitors center in Wind Cave National Park, adjacent to Custer State Park.

Great little campground in the prairie. Spots are not nearly level if youre in a van many spots have no cell service but theres WiFi in the way in! Several pit toilets, dumpsters and water spigots in summer. There are several trails close by too!

The campground was clean, beautiful, well-located with easy access to Custer State Park, the Wind Cave Visitor's Center and Jewell Cave. Although vault toilets were the only ones available and running water was not, if you were prepared, it wasn't an issue, This campground is also a great base camp for the Badlands, Mt Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial and endless other activities.

This is such a peaceful and quiet campground. I love it here. It's especially nice to get my "favorite" campsite.

Wind Cave and the Elk Mountain Campground were wonderful. The campground is well maintained and the bathrooms were always clean and stocked. There is also a separate room with a small sink to do dishes. We visited when the elevator was down for maintenance so didn't get to see inside the cave but the natural entrance is awesome to see and there are plenty of trails. We kept busy hiking and we saw plenty of bison (from a safe distance) and a few elk. I will definitely visit again.

We saw bison as soon as we entered the park. Thank goodness the camping area is fenced in to keep them out. Other wildlife seen were: prairie dogs, coyotes, marmots, one badger. Facilities were clean and easily accessed. Lots of potable water access. It rained a lot in August, but dried out fast. So sad our tour tickets were cancelled the day the elevator broke down, so for safety no cave access. However, the rest of the park is lovely and serene. We would love to return someday when the tours restart.
