Review of Winter Camping at Cougar Crossing Campground, OregonWinter camping at Cougar Crossing Campground was an adventure that Ill remember fondly. The first thing that struck me was how close the campground is to the South Fork McKenzie River. The sound of the water flowing over rocks was a constant companion, creating a soothing backdrop that made the entire experience feel peaceful and connected to nature. The cold was, as expected, a defining feature of the trip. Nighttime temperatures dipped low enough to remind us why preparation is key. Bundled in layers and with a roaring campfire, we stayed warm and cozy, though the chill added an edge to the experience. For anyone planning a trip here in winter, a good sleeping bag, a wood stove, a propane heater, and/or extra blankets are a must. The location itself is stunning, even in winters muted tones. The towering trees and the river create a serene atmosphere that feels untouched and wild. Its the kind of place that invites reflection and a sense of calm. The campground facilities were decent, but winter conditions meant a few small challengesicy pathways and a bit of difficulty with water access. While it wasnt a flawless experience, it was a very good one. The beauty of the setting and the sense of isolation from the hustle of daily life made it worthwhile. Id recommend Cougar Crossing for anyone who loves winter camping and is up for a bit of adventure. Just come prepared for the cold, and youll have a memorable trip!

Real nice place, the views are to die for. Serene and beautiful. The host was also super helpful. If you have never been to this area, make sure you bring bug repellant. Access to the river was not the best, but within a short drive is ample access to water. There is also no access to potable water on site, so make sure you bring in a bunch for cooking and cleaning needs.
