A great last minute booking for a short trip, located between Vail and Leadville. There is an ATV rental next door/on the land of Camp Hale - great to use on the trails inside the overall site, as well as dirt bikes if you have them, instead of hiking (steep/narrow entrances to the paths that share with vehicles, also some are very open to sunlight). We hiked at Tennessee Pass instead, about a 10-15 minute drive and across from Ski Cooper.

Camp Hosts were amazing (Camp Store requires cash) and the grounds were really clean! It wasn't constant, but you could hear the highway from the campsites even at night, other than that it's peacefully quiet. A downside, if you're going for the historical aspect as well, is that some of the informational signs, in the small pull-ins by the main entrance, are really weathered, but the signs inside the grounds are newer.
