This cabin is a great asset and value for money. Especially valuable in colder weather. Previous experience/familiarity with the fundamentals for running a woodstove and keeping it going all night is a big plus! Perfect for scouting overnight events.

A wonderful cabin with a beautiful view and possibly the smallest wood stove on earth : ]

Cozy cabin on the summit with plenty of room for 7 hikers and a dog. Beautiful views of Maine just steps from the cabin. No issues finding hardwood firewood within 200' of the cabin. The bow saw provided was appreciated. Bring lots of water as there is none close to the cabin. The 0.6 mile hike to South Doublehead yields beautiful views to the West and worth the hike over.

The cabin is spacious and has 4 double beds and 4 single beds above them. It was warm and no heating was required (plenty of dry wood was available). We took the old path the cabin which was a mistake, much shorter but extremely steep and with mots of luggage. There a two great view points, one towards the presidential range from the rock that lies 10 feet from the cabin and a much better one at the back of the cabin eastwards. Otherwise, you are surrounded by dense forest. we didn't go to the southern view point which is maybe 0.5 mile walk away..

We always have a great time and always try to leave it cleaner than when we go there.Evidently the night before someone broke a window. The Ranger called us to let us know and would refund our money if we wanted. I said it will not be a problem and it all worked out fine and as good as it ever does. Had a warden come visit and take down the frames of the broken windows. Was great talking to him, thank you for taking care of a cabin I have been going to for over 30 years !!

We had a full moon, and 11 night, no wind, and a beautiful sunrise and sunset. I think we were at the cabin for about 20 hours total and we burned wood as constantly as we could in that little stove. I think that amounted to three of those plastic wrapped kiln-dried firewood packages. We were absolutely cozy. There wasn't enough snow to ski, but there was enough to slide pulks over the rocks and water bars just fine What a gorgeous and comfortable destination.

Went up ther with my son for the night. Bring your own wood, or at least bring your own saw. Awesome place.

We slept in Doublehead during a windstorm. Despite being buffetted by strong gusts the cabin felt snug and strong. Pit toilet, pot-belly stove but BYO firewood. That's about it! There was an old backgammon game that someone left behind that helped pass the after dark hours.

It was what I expected, a rustic cabin with wood stove if needed, bunks and peace and quiet. Exactly what is described.

Amazing views. Pack all camping items. Hike up Old Trail to the cabin is about 1500 feet elevation in 1.8 miles. TOUGH but worth it. Pack light. Parked at the trailhead.

The cabin was fantastic! In the winter, it is definitely worth bringing some wood of your own to supplement what you can collect up there — the fire is critical! The stove is small; smaller wood is better.
Bunk rooms are so spacious!

Wonderful cabin with a fun and steep hike getting to the top. Cabin is spacious, with 4 separate sections each with a bunk bed, clear directions on how to use the wood stove and best practices on collecting only downed wood, etc. The view was pleasant, and as it is the summit and a popular spot, expect other hikers to hike up to the top (a chance to say hi!). There's lots of seating and places to place bags, and we didn't have too much trouble with rodents after rubbing and spraying our gear with mint.

Great cabin with spectacular views right outside the door. April 17, 2022 weather in the low 30's at night so a warm sleeping bag was a must as the stove does very little to warm the cabin, but that is part of the experience! With about 50 pounds on our backs the hike was about two hours going in and we were glad we brought micro spikes along for the top section of the ski trail which was snowy and icy. Firewood was easy enough to scavenge nearby. No water nearby so bring plenty. Hiked to South Doublehead and back to cabin on April 18 and it was good to have spikes for that as well. About 45 minutes from cabin to South Doublehead and the views there are even better than at North Doublehead.

Had a great time with snowshoe hikes, great views and weather. We stayed for 3 nights in February at negative Fahrenheit during night. A saw is essential to prepare firewood, of which there is plenty, a splitting axe is a plus. The stove is small and does a good job warming people sitting near it, but the hut gets warmer only by a few degrees (and never above freezing even during daytime). Fortunately this is mentioned in the description online, so we came prepared with appropriate gear and cold weather sleeping bags and sleeping pads (don’t forget a decent camp light). We also never got water to boil on the small stove, but hot enough for pasta. Adaption happens surprisingly quick, and we didn’t feel cold. There are few trails nearby, but hiking to South Doublehead (about 1.5h return) or bushwhacking down to the Saco river east branch is fun (3.5 h when returning in your tracks) and probably easier in snowshoes than in summer. I’m not sure if it was the cold or snow conditions (about 30-40 inches), but we didn’t see a single person. Some tools like a shovel for the stove, a broom and a big shovel are provided, and I had pretty decent cell phone connectivity.

The old CCC ski trail is great fun with Telemark/downhill skis, cannot recommend trying it with XC skis but I can say I have seen it done! The tiny lil' woodstove doesn't draw well with the door open cause the fire box temperature goes down, once you get it lit close that door though and it works great - although it is only the size of a toaster oven so do not expect it to be "warm" inside the cabin: I would heartily recommend this trip to a friend who I knew was into winter camping, but not to people who wouldn't consider sleeping outside in the snow.

We had a very nice time. Make sure you have experience backpacking. Keep your pack as light as possible. We have two camping stoves and brought the wrong fuel for the tiny one we have so we had to rely on the wood stove and could not get water to boil. Other than our own mistake the cabin was relaxing and fun
Parks in the air and Summits on the air spot. Great view into Maine. Check out my video https://youtu.be/BXoNLGtADH4
