Absolutely perfect. The hike up was a bit more difficult than I had imagined, but that was partially due to my own ignorance (its a ski trail, shouldve known it would be kinda steep) and I definitely overpacked. So serene once I was up there, it was everything I needed it to be. The good snow had been washed away by the rain so I didnt get to ski but thankfully I brought a few good books with me. I was relieved not to have cell phone service and enjoyed the absolute silence that surrounded me.

Great cabin and awesome woodstove! Nice trail to ski down as well. Highly recommend!

The climb in mid December with knee high snow and 3 days of supplies was not too bad. We were able to warm up the cabin to almost 70 degrees while it was in the teens outside. Cabin was clean. It was a pleasant experience.

Love these rustic cabins. It was a challenging but doable hike from the Black Mountain Ski Trail. It is about 950 feet in 1.5 miles, but the privacy is worth it. Pack light and enjoy the silence at night. Pack all things you would need.

Nice cabin with good view. When we arrived, the cabin was at 20 degrees, but we got it up to around 40 with the wood stove. With winter gear, we were pretty cozy for the night. The hike up/down the sky trail was moderate and enjoyable.

A Special Place! Very rustic. Bring firewood and water in winter.

Hauling everything you'll need will take more than one person. The whole hike is an incline. Took me two hours in the ice and snow, and that wasn't carrying anything! Getting my supplies up alone proved too difficult, so I didn't stay the night.

Excellent time at Black Mtn. shortly before Christmas. Several very small streams to cross, spring was flowing, outhouse was clean and new, excellent view from cabin door. Cabin is large with high ceilings. There is no way you can heat the whole place even if you burn the fire all night so take the description posted on the website to heart! Cabin will be the same, or almost the same, as the outside temp! Wood around the cabin is mostly pine with some maple and birch mixed in. We were lucky enough to find some downed maple branches. Great time in splendid isolation, will be back again.

While we carried all the water we woulod need, we did find the spring near the cabin to be flowing (mid-December). To be safe, I presume it would need to be treated before ingesting.

Worth the hike! The climb was steep, but the views were amazing and the cabin was cozy enough to be comfortable. My only regret is not staying longer. The firewood situation was scarce, be sure to bring a saw and plan for time to forage for downed trees and drag them over or cut wood.

My son and I have visited Black Mtn. cabin several times and were last here in 1999. This year we spent 2 very enjoyable nights there. The cabin is still in good shape with a new wood stove. Unfortunately, the screen frames have been damaged by those trying to pry their way into the structure. There is also a newly constructed, handicap-accessible outhouse.
Bring plenty of water with you. The spring is generally unreliable, but this year, we were able to supplement our reserves from the spring. The wood stove quickly boiled the spring water before use. Fortunately, there were no mice running around this year.
It's a short hike to the cabin and a really nice get-away! Can't wait to return.

The trail up is steady, good footing, not many rocks and several stream crossings. The view from the cabin was nice but from the summit was disappointing. The spring was a little more than a trickle but the area was set back from the cabin and clean. The cabin had been cleaned by a ranger the night before we arrived. The inside was a little dark but pleasant. The flies are out and there are no outside fires allowed so be prepared with spray. We stayed one night and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Highly recommend the Black Mtn cabin! We hauled a sled up with some firewood and food, which helped. We also gathered some wood up near the cabin. Great views. Loved the layout of the cabin, cozy - but more than enough space for 8 people. Will definitely go again!

Great cabin, decent wood stove. Very clean outhouse.
Easy hike with moderate steepness at the end. Summit view very limited.
