Barnes Field's location is perfect for hiking groups who wish to climb especially in the Presidential's range. The sites vary in size from small groups to larger groups with 6 or more tents. At least two picnic tables per site (some have three) and very large fire rings are also provided. These fire rings are essential because in our recent camping trip over Columbus Day weekend the entire state of NH was in a drought and a fire ban had been issued statewide: Exception: campgrounds with approved fire rings. On the down side: there is no potable water at Barnes Field. You must head over to Dolly Copp campground (1/4 mile) to get potable water. There are only a couple pit toilets at Barnes Field. Flushable toilets with running water, electricity, and showers do exist at Dolly Copp.

Sites are very spacious. I usually have 12-20 people in my group including two smaller campers, 4-5 large tents and a 12 x 20 EZ up and there is still plenty of room. Sites are not on top of each other...pretty spaced out. Barnes filed has 2 vault toilets which are decent enough, nut you can also drive over to Dolly Copp campground right next door if you want flush toilets and coin operated showers. Only 6 miles to Gorham if you are need to get into town and lots of hiking trails within 5 miles. I have been going here every fall for at least 5 years and will continue to.

Barnes Field campground is a small wooded campground with the sites along a short loop road. The sites are well maintained, clear, and fairly level... surrounded by woods. There are pit toilets. No water (there was an old school water pump that didn't work).
