Nice park. Very crowded and sites were very close together.

We were very pleased with Douglas Headwater. We had no idea just how beautiful this place was. When we made the reservation there, it was mainly to have a campsite that was close enough to Pigeon Forge to visit there, but it was far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. But we seriously had no idea just how nice it was until we got there. We were on sight 13, which was on top of a hill. The views of the lake were so lovely. The site was almost perfectly level, and we had a relatively nice space between other sites. But the fact that it's a Federal park and we were able to use our America the Beautiful pass and get half off, that made it even better. I wish it was closer to PA, we would go back often. The restrooms were very clean. The office/store was very nice, The staff working there were all very nice. Over all, we couldn't have been move pleased. Well, Full hookups would be nice, and the only thing that seemed a little odd was at the dump station. The layout made it weird that we had to drive past it and come back in from the other side. But that's a very minor issue.

We have fallen in love with this campground. We have been staying in Loop C and have never found a bad campsite. We use a booster with our AT&T service that we put on the roof of our camper which gives us the ability to at least text and make phone calls. Sometimes we can even view the weather and look up things to do in the area. Our favorite thing to do from the campground is to kayak down to Falls Creek. It's a 4 mile flat paddle down the Little Kanawha River to the waterfall. We see all kinds of interesting things. Almost saw a bear on the shoreline but missed it by 30 min per a swimmer at the beach. It's a very relaxing paddle and we had a picnic on the rocks at the falls. Total paddling was 8 miles and we did it in 3 1/2 hours round trip. We have also walked the Bulltown Camp grounds to the trenches and visited the museum. Very interesting history. Other things to do in the area within 90 mins and a MUST do is to go to Hawks Nest State Park and ride the tram then walk the 4 mile round trip rail trail behind the gift shop. If you can only walk 2 miles, then go up a mile and get a breathtaking view of the water fall there. On your way back, stop at Carnifex Battlefield for a walk on Patterson Trail then stop at the Long Point Overlook to view the cliffs of Summerville Lake. Bulltown Camp is a hidden gem and a great place to make your base camp as you branch out to visit the area. Don't forget to visit the New River Gorge Canyon Rim Visitors Center and take the audio drive of the gorge.

Nice sites, well appointed. Very much off the beat and track, no cell service in most areas and limited WiFi for an additional fee. But truly, you are camping so it was not a big deal, no antenna TV available, nice beach is close by the campground
