This is a great park, especially if you enjoy river fishing. But also great for birding! It can get windy so youll definitely need to tie down your awnings. No mosquitos, no wasps but our dog did catch a few ticks. Ugh! Little ones can wade into the very shallow river on hot days.

The campgrounds were disappointingly trashy. There were Burger King sacks and cig butts all over our are.Especially in the bushes near the river where our dogs discovered used toilet paper.

Nice spot by the river. Mild noise from the train and highway but overall it’s pleasant. Close to Yakima.

Beautiful location with lots to explore. The canyon never disappoints.

Got pretty hot and smoky, but a good time nonetheless

Our second time staying at Big Pines in June.
Pros:
-Beautiful scenery in the canyon
-Site 2 is right by river with easy access to go wade in water
-Site is large, level and has shade
-Weekdays are quiet and peaceful

Cons:
-Summer Friday and Saturday nights are party time, with no noise enforcement. Be ready for music, generators, and screaming swimmers past midnight.
-Only a handful of sites have shade and canyon is often very windy so making your own shade is also difficult. Canopies and awnings might not survive.
-Other campers and day users have a tendency to walk right in the middle of others’ campsites to get to the river or bathroom (especially site #1)

We were able to reserve our favorite site. The weather was better than expected. We filled our holding tank after 3 days and it would have been nice to be able to empty them eventually at a rest stop.
Looking forward for another visit.

My only request is that we had to do a first come first serve on a friday of a weekend in the first week of May. it was stressful to just get one spot and then had to move to our "weekend" reserved spot for the saturday and sunday and monday of the following week. I get May1 MAY may be convenient for the calendars but we were feeling like a domino on Saturday morning at the camp ground.
