The cabin and restroom were clean and someone was nice to leave a little drinking water for our arrival and a bag of ice in the freezer. We enjoyed listening to the larch snags sing in the wind during a thunderstorm downdraft, rode bikes with our grandchildren and had 4 nice, quiet, moonlit nights.

This is an incredibly beautiful spot, and the cabin is very cozy. Also, the North Fork of the John Day is right in the backyard, suitable for dunking and wading. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the bugs were pretty bad - a few wasps, but clouds of hover flies and orange butterflies at the front porch. I think people have been tossing there waste water there! In the evening, ravenous mosquitoes. Still, paradise with a few warts.

We had a wonderful time at Peavy. Beautiful, serene and peaceful. The cabin is a luxury out in the wilderness. Just be sure to bring lanterns as the cabin lighting is quite dim.

Nice to see the Cunningham Cove and Peavy trails have been cleared all the way up to the Elkhorn Crest trail. It's great to be able to just head out of the cabin and spend the day hiking. Saw a couple of juvenile black bears while hiking the Granite Creek trail (hope they learn to flee from humans before hunting season starts). Also hiked to Van Patten Lake, a steep hike to a good Brook Trout lake (an alternative to Crawfish Lake if you've already done that).

Didn't have the chance to try Baldy Creek trail (I guess I'll have to come back again next year).

Great place. Rustic and quiet. Only complaint was the futon mattress. Very hard and uncomfortable. Bring a pad or cot for everyone. Gas heat worked great. Lights are pretty dim. Good fridge and oven/stove. Nearby outhouse is very nice concrete building. Trailer spot on sight. Road in was easier than expected from description. Mind you this was August. If you go keep it nice. This place was a treasure and I intend to go back.

The cabin and the setting were idyllic, and access to river and Elkhorn Crest trails each day lead to days of adventures!

Very nice cabin located in a secluded valley near the Elkhorn Crest. You can either head up to Anthony Lake and the Elkhorn Crest area or explore sections of the North Fork John Day River (many opportunities to hike and fish in both areas). Excellent fall foliage in October. The new central heating is nice to have early in the morning to get out of bed.

The cabin and environs were so clean and beautiful. The new gas heater was a luxury! We were having a great time and then the smoke rolled in. Too smokey for us so we left two days early. We will be back!

Nice and secluded but easily within reach of the North Fork John Day River and Anthony Lakes / Elkhorn Crest areas. Cabin is well maintained and appliances work very well.

We used the time to simply relax. The facility, location and views are outstanding. I especially want to thank the people at Anthony Lakes, who administer the site, for being so helpful and accommodating. They are wonderful to work with. Thanks!

Excellent location. Drive in was no problem but snow in upper elevations made driving to Elkhorn Crest difficult (road up to Anthony Lake is not plowed). Hiking along John Day River was very nice and even did some fishing. Isolated location means its very quiet and rustic.

There are many hiking trails in the Elkhorns and around Peavy Cabin. The Elkhorn Crest trail is very nice. I have hiked the portions of the trail withing a couple miles of Anthony Lakes and I just love all the large granite boulders. It really makes the hike interesting. I like that it is remote and uncrowded. Also take in the live music in the Summer at the Ski Lodge. The local people are nice and friendly and we really enjoyed our time there this past Summer. I love Peavy and the Elkhorns!
