Great group site with plenty of parking. It was nice to have several picnic tables and the shade structure over the tables.

Wow! We were a Very small group, and could not find smaller campsites. While this was a little bigger than we needed, it made the experience absolutely incredible!!! Please consider allowing more group campsites to allow smaller groups so that more can book when smaller sites have filled up.

Great views, close to town, clean pit toilets. And the picnic area had a shade covering.

Other then location this camp area offers nothing. Only a few pit toilets and some didn't even have a roof(just a fenced in area). Got a group site for 80$ a night and it was exactly the same and a regular site just with a large parking area. No running water anywhere on property. Most sites had nothing but a fire ring. This is BLM land and should be free to disperse camp at. The money they charge to stay here you would think to have some running water and cover toilet areas.

Some trash left behind by previous campers, and red ants near the tables but otherwise very quiet, beautiful view, clean bathroom, and nice shelter for the site with multiple tent spaces.

*Unreliable reservation system.* A large group was in my reserved site when I arrived at 7 p.m. and there was no ranger or camp host that could help me at all. Very frustrating after having booked the reservation a few months in advance. And of course all other sites were full. Seems very easy to poach a spot at these sites and there is no accountability/camp hosts/rangers to help in a situation like this. This party also used their generator during hours you were not supposed to. They were not at the site when I initially arrived (but lots of RVs and tents setup). I also would not have felt comfortable confronting them. Book at your own risk.

The size was awesome! Beautiful views, flat, close to the bathrooms. When we arrived over an hour after our site was available to occupy there was a very large group from the night before that had not even started to back up. I would have liked to have seen better oversight at the time people should be out of the site so that we were not waiting in the car with small kids after a long drive to get set up.

They were doing some construction in the area which took away a little bit from the quiet, but the improvements to the property underway will be nice for future visitors. It is a beautiful area and it was fun camping there.

I booked both Datura C and D group sites because we were going to have a large group getting together for spring break. Most of the individuals were going to be camping in their vans, with one group bringing a small pop up trailer, another in the back of a Tacoma, and one group pitching a couple small tents. The information on the Recreation.gov site is misleading, stating you could only park 2 vehicles at site C and 3 at site D. Site D had a huge parking area. We easily fit 8 vehicles in this site for one evening with no detriments to campground access or other campers. Site C could easily accommodate 3 vehicles, although the parking spot was not level for camper vans. Because of this misinformation and the better parking in Site D, we didn't even utilize Site C for the majority of the week we had booked. This misinformation on the recreation.gov site is the only reason I can't give the site 5 stars.

Other than the misinformation, the campsites were amazing. You have sun all day at these sites, which is awesome in the spring, the bathrooms were spotless and despite the proximity to 4x4 trails the sites are amazingly quiet. In the future I would book only Datura Site D for a large group of people.

SAND FLATS WAS PEACFUL,QUITE AND A VERY GOOD OVERALL EXPERIENCE
@JoelF8582122 · Camped on Jun 5, 2022 at Campsite #4
Being so close to the ATV trails of the sandflats, I was expecting a very busy and loud campsite, but we were very pleasantly surprised that is was quiet with very few people camping and far enough from the road that the folks who were ATVing around us were not disturbing. It is a beautiful remote campsite that is low on amenities, but as long as you know that going it, it was a great place to set up camp for a few days.

I rolled in after dark and just camped overnight. Easy entry and exit. Campsite was as described. The surroundings offered beautiful scenery at sunrise. The restroom is simple but adequate and very clean.

Our group site at Sand Flats loop D was just right with a shelter, two picnic tables, plenty of room for tents, and fantastic views of the La Sal mountains. Pit toilet bathrooms were some of the cleanest I've ever seen!

Got to my site and it was taken but no humans were there. They had posted the slip showing they had the same spot given to me. It was nearing dark and I could not wait to set up camp in the dark and cold. I had to leave and get a hotel room.

Paid for a reserved group site to fit 11 people. Was given a very small camp site that was not labelled "group" and did not fit everyone and our vehicles. In addition to paying for the site that did not need to be reserved in the first place (is in the first-come-first-serve section of the camp grounds), we also paid for for parking permits. Overall, reservations, directions, permits were not user friendly. Very confusing and led to multiple confrontations.

One of the best campsites I have ever stayed in! Clean & well stocked bathrooms & beautiful views! Lots of bats flying at night which helped keep bugs to a minimum. Campsite is within a 10-15 minute drive to Moab, which has everything you need from the city market to outdoorsy equipment at gear heads! Gear heads also has a free potable water station outside which is the perfect place to refill gallon jugs since the campsite doesnt have running water. Sand flats recreation area has an abundance of UTV & Biking trails which you can access from the campsite. The campground is also 15 minutes away from Mill Creek, a great spot to hike through the water and cool off on a hot day. Next time we are in Moab we will definitely be staying here again.
