Moonflower is an incredible group site with plenty of shade! I would highly recommend this site to large families. An abundance of things for the kids to do and explore in Moonflower Canyon. This site has full shade in the hottest parts of the day due to the high canyon walls. Camp host Sandy was pleasant and helpful. We stayed with four families and total of 8 adults and 17 kids and had a blast!

This is a beautiful place to camp. There was plenty of room for 8 large tents and a few spur of the moment campers that asked if they could share the site. There is an ancient cottonwood tree that alone makes it a place to camp, to say nothing of the petroglyphs.

This is a stunning campsite with so much space. My group had an amazing time here and loved the beautiful backdrop of the canyon and convenient location. The canyon provides shade throughout much of the day which is a huge plus. The only downside is that this site is next to a popular hiking trail. The trail can be accessed without walking through our campsite but people walked through it all day long anyway. I think a sign requesting people not walk through the group campsite would make this a much more pleasant experience for campers. Im sure people were just confused about the trailhead, but it did feel a bit violating to have people walk through the middle of our campsite so often.

Beautiful campground! The access to the canyon and trails is hard to beat.

Beautiful Camp Site. There is a popular rock climb by the parking lot that people like to visit and climb and lots of hikers head up the Moonflower canyon hike while you are there, but as long as you take up the group site space with your tents well the extra people traffic around just fine. We had a great time and many were saying we need to come back to this site next time.

Moonflower Canyon is great. However, this campsite is terrible. At least some important aspects of it. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are several attractions at this location (rock art, a natural rock chimney with a ladder that can be climbed by many people, & the canyon itself), & therefore there is a large parking lot, & people visit this place all day long - & all NIGHT long as well. I booked 4 nights at this campground but didn't even make it through the second night before I had to leave. There are many good things about this site; I don't need to repeat them here, but instead just want to relate my experience.
The 1st evening there were 2 or 3 small groups of hikers that walked through the campsite, and I politely asked them to go to the other side of the canyon, where the official trail is. They were considerate & went to the other side of the canyon. Then, after dark, more people arrived; they partied & were loud. My 2nd night there, at 1 a.m., I heard a car pull up & a man who seemed to be drunk or high started wandering around. Make a long story short, he started yelling at me, saying that he was a local & that I was not supposed to be camping here. He got quite belligerent & was cursing & would not leave. My family felt unsafe & so we left in a hurry & called the sheriff, who came to deal with the man. My family & I stayed in a hotel in Moab, which cost $$$. (especially considering the camping fee I already paid!)
We will not return to this campsite, unless some big changes are made. The BLM should add more & better fencing, MUCH better & bigger signing. They also need to patrol this area frequently throughout the night to prevent this sort of thing from happening to other campers.
I hope that this review will do a couple things: 1). Educate people before they book this site and pay for it, and 2). let the BLM and Recreation.gov know what kind of situation they are putting people into by offering this site as a reservable campground.

Too many randoms just strolling through our camp. There needs to be a chain or something to keep people on the East side of the wash (non-camp side). We also had hippies show up and set up their hammocks at midnight. Was super annoying.

This group site was gorgeous! It was very well kept, beautifully situated against the rocks, with shade during most of the day. The fire pit is well established, with a concrete barrier around the outside. Multiple picnic tables are provide to accommodate large groups. The only reason we took off one star is that parking is quite a distance from the campsite so you have to carry your stuff a fair distance, across a dry creek bed, from the car. Also, when the rain came (flash floods are real!) the creek bed was no longer dry and we had to walk all the way out to the road to get to our vehicle and the toilet.

We loved this site, it was beautiful and close to all of our activities in the Moab/Arches area. However, we had issues with people camping in the parking lot while we were there. It was frustrating to have paid $100 for the site and then have 5 other vehicles park there and use the space for free.

This option is a great option for a big group, lots of space for multiple tents but the privacy is lacking. A public trail, very popular trail runs directly in front of this location so there isn't any privacy until its completely dark. We had a much better experience with primitive camping on the other side of Moab. None the less, its a great spot for a big group, family reunion or group of camping friends!

We love Moonflower Canyon and have been there many times. The campsite is nicely placed to be separate from the stream of hikers. There are ample tables and the fire pit was well cared for.

We love Moonflower Group Site because it is totally private - only one "group" is allowed to camp in this little cove, although there are occasional hikers and drive-by visitors checking out the petroglyphs right at the road. We had visited the spot many times for its beauty - shaded by ancient green Cottonwood trees is a flat, family-friendly hike to a small pond/spring. Endless warm, red sand to play and nap in. The site is situated right across the road from the Colorado river and is SO QUIET at night, with the exception of random cars or a group of midnight hikers (that actually happened to us). Stars galore and immeasurable beauty as the day turns to night. We made a massive mistake, however, by going for a weekend in August (we realize now why there were so many open reservations), because it was SWELTERING even through the night, and there wasn't even a breeze through the narrow canyon walls. We have visited the spot in April, May and June, however, and those months would have been absolutely perfect for camping. Bring a sturdy wagon to drag camping gear from car to spot - deep sand trails to site. There are tables, fire pits, BBQs provided and there is plenty of room for a large group. Totally worth the money to stay in Moonflower.
