After planning my camping trip for over a month. As the date got closer and closer there were horrible fires and I didn't even go. Unforeseen circumstance ruined my experience at Diamond Lake so I will see if I can't get some kind of a refund. I know it's not their fault it's nobody's fault but I had to scramble at the last minute because of the fire and smoke was absolutely horrific.

What a pleasant surprise! Beautiful campground. Well maintained and perfectly appointed. We will be back.

Although it's easy to be mesmerized by nearby Crater Lake, Diamond Lake in the Umpqua National Forest is a gem on its own.

While the campground is old and some of the campsites are cramped, it's a wonderful place to relax.Site A034 is a double site but our two campers had to be positioned one behind the other. Most of the double sites are laid out that way, but a few are side by side.

One of the highlights for us was taking our bikes out on the paved 11-mile John Dellenback Trail around the lake. Access to the trail is available from both Diamond Lake and Thielsen View campgrounds, along with Diamond Lake Resort and the pizza parlor near the south end of the lake.

The trail provides views of Mount Thielsen, Mount Bailey, the lake, meadows and the forest surrounding the lake.

Across from our campsite, next to the lake, we watched the resort's fireworks show, which was better than many city shows I've viewed. The reflection of the fireworks on the lake added to the enjoyment.

Restrooms and drinking water spigots are spread throughout the camp. There's also free showers available and a free dump station.

A fair number of mosquitoes come out in the morning and before dusk. Spray or lotion is advised.

Boats are common on Diamond Lake. There are several launch spots in Diamond Lake and Thielsen View campgrounds, along with Diamond Lake Resort.
Restrooms are located throughout the campground.
Site A34 is a double site, but not in the traditional sense. Instead of two side-by-side sites, this older campground features two spaces one in front of the other. We had to have our friends park first, drive their tow vehicle out and then have us back in to our space. They parked their pickup behind their camper.

Diamond Lake Campground is the perfect jumping-off point for visiting Crater Lake. The national park is about 30 minutes away and Diamond Lake is more scenic than Crater Lake's Mazama Campground.
The campground offers several docks for guests to jump into the lake from.
There are several boat docks for launching boats and other watercraft into the lake.

We loved Diamond Lake Campground. Despite a large number of campsites, it remained quiet in our loop during the three nights we stayed there. Never had any contact with the campground hosts, although we didn't expect to. Loved that we were able to get on our bikes and ride around the lake on the 11-mile, paved John Dellenback Trail. That was one of the highlights of our stay and an under publicized amenity. The 4th of July fireworks on the lake were better than most city displays I've witnessed.

Bathroom nearest us and the next closest were closed. The bathroom that was open was then overflowing. No mention at the gate by attendant.
The reservation system was not very easy to use. We had to do separate reservations for each day and ended up double booking sites for the same night. It should be a simple reservation system that older folks can easily access and use.

We loved Diamond Lake and this campground. So beautiful and a lot of the sites on A loop have a nice view of the lake. Paved roads, flush toilets, showers and a boat launch were all pluses. Just needs a good swimming beach but we made our own. We will definitely come again!
