I recently stayed 5 nights at Timpooneke Campgroud. The campground itself is lovely, wooded, lush and bathrooms were clean. However, for whatever reason, the forest service allows motorcycles/dirt bikes on a trail that goes above the campground. This is a pristine area with abundant wildlife. I have no idea why they would allow this. In addition there are many hikers on the trail. There was another trail we encountered at the summit that also allowed hiking and motorbikes and I'm sure there are others. The Alpine Loop is a beautiful road for motorcycles and I see no reason whatsoever that they should be allowing them on trails. Our group of seniors was having a first night campfire when the camphosts came up and asked some members to show their senior passes which resulted in them having to leave to their campsites to obtain these. Although I know it says they can ask, this is the first time I have ever had a host ask for them and it was quite interfering.

The campers next to us were playing charades and drunk laughing almost until 1130. The camp next to theirs got angry at them and then had a loudness competition as revenge. Wish the camp host drove around the camp at quiet time to make sure the rules were being followed. Other than that, campsite 26 was lovely and the drives around the canyon was amazing.

Incredible hike. Views are breathtaking. Terrain is challenging in some areas - > wear boots!
