Beautiful campground, large private sites with lots of big trees, great host, what's not to like?

We always have a great trip when we camp at Sunrise Campground. It's so close to the Garden City and the lake. We always go to the public beach at the South end of the lake between Ideal Beach and Rendezvous Beach. The water was down a LOT from last year so everyone was driving down onto the beach.... and getting stuck. We were fine but we have a 4x4 pickup. Driving onto the sand isn't a good idea in a 2 wheel drive vehicle. Some people asked us to try to pull them out but we don't carry a rope or anything.

Our visit to Sunrise Campground was generally wonderful. The campground and toilets were clean and well taken care off. The campground host (Terry) was great! He was fun, helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and always had a good answer to our questions and concerns.

We did have two negatives or concerns:

1) The campground roads are atrocious. They are in need immediate and substantial repair. We have been coming to this campground every year since 1963 for an annual family reunion (65 people this year). The road has gotten worse every year. I have heard that there have been no repairs since was originally installed some 60+ years age. Please fix it.

2) The restroom (pit toilet) near campsite # 10 has a placard indicating that it is "handicapped accessible". It is not! There is a 5-6 inch drop from the cement pad at the toilet level and the asphalt approach to that cement pad. Our son is a quadriplegic and is confined to a 350 lb. wheel chair. There is no way we could get him up on the cement pad and the toilet level. THIS IS A DIRECT VIOLATION OF FEDERAL REGULATION AS ESTABLISHED BY THE "AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT." Action must be taken immediately to comply with this Federal Law - especially because it is on federal property. Please take immediate steps to remedy this problem.
Thank You

We had the best time at Sunrise campground this year! We were there from July 1st through July 5th and wish we could have stayed longer. The bathrooms were clean and our camp hosts, the Crosby's, were the best camp hosts we have ever had (and we camp a lot)! They were more than helpful and so friendly. They truly cared that we were enjoying ourselves. We wish they were our camp hosts every year at Sunrise campground!
