Nothing in the description says about this cabin being on a ATV road. The road is very rough to the cabin, we actually ended up with a flat tire. The ATV's are non stop even into the night hours. In the summer if you open the windows in the cabin it is COVERED in dust inside! The community restroom is next to the cabin and through all hours of the night the door slams.. while the person using it lets their ATV idle outside. It is not a quite location; nor restful. I have stayed at many REC. GOV cabins and never had a complaint, but its sad this cabin is in this location.

Even though it says to bring your own cleaning supplies we found a broom, mop, simple green, Lysol, and other supplies there. You should bring your own paper towels. The kitchen utensils were sufficient for our needs but you may want to bring your own skillet or youll be stuck with a 4 inch egg pan. There is a large soup pot and some smaller ones as well. A full set of plates, bowls, and silverware for at least 4 people. There are definitely several deer mice that have lost their fear of humans that live in this cabin one of whom had a face off with our two year old. The bunks have a thin 1 inch ish foam pad that we didnt find adequate but with a supplemental air mattress or camping pad are fine. There are two sets of bunk beds one is twin on top queen on bottom and the other is two twin beds. There is a woodpile in the back and an axe in the closet of the cabin but no hatchet (we had our own). There is a clothesline outside to hang up your wet swimming clothes and plenty of fish in the creek. The propane stove, fridge, and gas lamps work great but we never tried the oven. We ended up cleaning the public toilet as when we got there someone before us had had a very bad day and we had the means to clean it. There is no trashcan inside the cabin and with the mice I highly recommend either bringing your own metal container or we put ours in a locking plastic cargo box at night to avoid a disaster in the morning. Overall a 10/10 experience. Highly recommend.

How do you feel about camping in mouse poop that could give you hantavirus? 6 of us including babies went on a XC ski cabin trip up to Blacksmith Fork Guard Station mid-February '24. This was FAR below our expectations especially for $79 a night. Upon arriving, we realized there was so much mouse poop on every horizontal surface we saw. On the counters, table, floor, window seals, counters in the kitchen, on the mattresses, under the mattresses, dresser, fridge, oven range, in kitchen drawers and more. That wasnt it, the cleanliness was extremely poor. The fridge and freezer had mold. Before our trip, I called the ranger to ask about the cabin and get more details. We were expecting to use some of the things the ranger said we could use but because of the poor maintenance of the cabin we were not able to. I was told there were propane lights we could use there and instructions on how to use them, upon arrival we read the instructions which said to install a mantle for the light. There was only one mantle in the cabin so we could only have one room lit. I was told there were dishes to use there but they had mouse poop on them (they had butter knives but I dont think they had spoons/forks). I was told there would be instructions on how to use everything with propane but there wasnt any info on how to use the propane fridge. I was told the beds are sanitized between guests. The beds had pet hair, mouse poop, and lots of little yellow stains on them. On one mattress, it looked like a human (or dog) had peed on it. There was one unset mouse trap under the kitchen sink, but no other measures to keep the mice out...Check my google review for pictures and more info as I am limited on space and cannot add pictures here.

House smelled like propane, windows had plywood covering them, looked like squatters had been staying there, overall not worth the money. The house was extremely underwhelming, for the trip definitely save your money and book just the campsite.

Ranger Station was exactly what I was looking for. Remote, quiet, warm wood burning stove and good nights rest.

This is a nice area, easy to find and a pretty forrest of deciduous trees mainly, and not much pine as the elevation isnt very high. Beautiful lush greenery and a lovely bubbling creek out back. Campers spread along the one dirt road in various sites yet unable to see or hear them except for the occasional passing car. Although the road is dirt, any sedan can easily navigate it, avoiding pointy rocks. The cabin itself is full of character as expected, had a nice working refrigerator, pots pans and many odds and ends in the cabinets. The bed mattresses are rough sleeping for any adult, so bring an extra pad, or air mattresses is best, kid or youth can hack it though. Unfortunately people. who come and go hardly keep it tidy, compared to many other cabins we have rented, but if you are staying a few days its easy enough to clean it up for your visit. There were a few mosquitos but not many ( August) Nearest services are 20-30 mins away. Lots of fox, deer and I presume bears in the area-bear activity signs were posted and everywhere in this area is possible for bears, so bear mace, bells and planning ahead for that is best. Lovely views of the mountains, boulder outcrops and a small beach area for the kids to play. We were disappointed in the general condition of the property with a chipped up cement picnic table, pealing paint, exterior looking near abandoned in person, and the fence looking as if it hasn't had a facelift since the 1940s-1960s. Other cabins for rent in Utah are far more maintained than this one in terms of the exterior. We love the old world rustic interior, but A deep clean would be nice as the floors and window sils were the worst. The floors were old and scraped up and we loved that authentic look but they were pretty filthy despite being swept, and the windows and window sils were probably the worst thing with hundreds of dead bug and flies and massive dust and dirt dug into them. ALL WINDOWS NEED A FULL DEEP CLEANING. CLEAN UP after yourselves:)

For the price per night, we weren't that impressed with this site. I realize that it was a holiday weekend and there were plenty of other people up the canyon. The road is *not* improved, and it took us quite a while to travel the three miles up. The shared bathroom is probably fine on the off season, but every other minute there was someone using it and it was uncomfortable having so much traffic right outside our cabin. There was no where to store our trash (usually there are bear-proof containers or cans to use). Apparently mice got into our trash bag and in our car on our way home. The cabin wasn't left in great shape and we had to stock the bathroom with toilet paper due to all the visitors. I've stayed in multiple ranger stations and this was our least favorite unfortunately. The river and firepit out back made it worthwhile, though. Lots of privacy there. I think this should be 30/night max.

The road in to the cabin is very, very rough. Expect to drive at 5-10 mph while legitimately worrying about flattening one or more tires unless you're ripping by in an ATV.When we arrived at the cabin the glass on the front door was smashed and from the guestbook we learned the place had been robbed the day before. The cabin has a lot of potential but between the road, the glass and the risk of crime we did not sleep soundly.

On the positive side, the road into the cabin did not have any trees blocking it. Everything else about the 2 miles leading up to the cabin was awful. Traveling at a pace that made the final 2 miles take 40 minutes, we were bounced and tossed about in our SUV mercilessly. At times we had doubts as to whether we would be able to make it there. Once we arrived, we found the cabin to be a challenge. There were instructions on the counter for operating the appliances and the lights. We used the stove, but never went to the trouble of figuring out the refrigerator or the lights. There were many roaches in the cabin, having a gathering in the sink. There is no running water, and no indication of where water is to be obtained, other than from the river running nearby. There was no firewood. The location is beautiful, the cabin picturesque, but this is no place to stop for a single night.

Cute place! And Beautiful location! House needs serious attention. Beautiful scenic drive in. Road in to camp is horrible! Arriving we were greeted by a couple million box elder bug in between the windows and the screens on a 102 degree day. Second day we found in the kitchen were mice or rats had chewed their way through the wall to enter the house. Lighting, stove and refrigerator are propane and a wood burning stove in the cabin with no working smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector.

This cabin is a great value for your dollar. The fire ring area is perfectly placed away from the road and near the river. The parking and convenient bathroom location are excellent. We loved that despite there not being electricity that we still had use of a fridge, stove, and overhead bedroom lights. Some people don't leave it as clean as others, but it never felt germy or gross. We brought our dog with us and he had a wonderful time. Although he could slip through the surrounding fence if he wanted to it was enough of a barrier that he never chased after the frequent ATVs that rode by or that stopped to use the shared bathroom. There was plenty of firewood but I would suggest bringing your own just in case it had been used up by the time your reservation rolled around. We brought our own water cooler and then would fill it up at the spring that was about a mile up the road or back at the Hyrum City Park that was in the canyon. The futon mattress needed extra padding so we put more blankets on that and had our light weight kids sleep on that mattress, the other pads were just fine for a few nights. This is our second time staying here and we've already booked it again for the end of summer. It's perfect for that "glamping" experience, especially if you go in with realistic expectations.

Smooth process to rent and an incredible place. Loved the charm of the guard station. So glad we got it the first weekend the road opened. It was such a nice step out of busy life and back to a simpler time. We just need more places like this!

This cabin is in a beautiful valley and is luxurious by rural standards. It is pest-free, warm, well-lit, and well-stocked with dishes and firewood (early in the winter). The surrounding area is wonderful and the river has fish in it, though I have yet to catch one. The hike in is relatively flat and short (2ish miles). I've been here twice and plan to return for many more nights in the woods!

The Cabin was tons of fun for our small family! As noted there is no power. Everything is run by propane, including the lights and fridge/freezer. Two complaints we ended up having were that every mantle was broken on the gas lights, needing replacement before we could use them. We did end up having the mantles with us. Even with below 30 nights, there were several wasps we woke up to every morning inside the cabin. We saw maybe two other people our whole stay there! We were surprised with how well furnished the kitchen was, and how warm the wood stove kept the cabin. Looking forward to our next stay!

Endless stream of traffic and this cabin is right on the road, so there is little privacy in the yard. The restroom has a gate to the road that invites passersby to have a stop. The cabin itself is quite nice and appears well maintained though the beds require you bring your own mattresses.
