Went to patching lake to hunt deer up the mountains behind the cabin. This was a last minute back up location when our first pick fell through. We were successful but, extremely difficult climb to get into hunt-able territory and brutal pack out with the deer. I dont recommend it for hunting deer. There were plenty of deer and black bears present but, there are more easily accessible areas that will produce bigger bucks. After we got our deer we spent 3 days fishing the lake and enjoying the location. Lots of cutthroat trout in the lake. Its very deep, if you want to catch the bigger fish you need to bring deep diving lures. Slow trolling would probably produce fish. Two aluminum boats, the older boat is leaky and patched with duct tape. The newer boat is very nice. 1 set of oars available. Bringing a small outboard would make the lake more enjoyable. The cabin was in great shape. Well maintained and spotless. The wood shed was full of cut logs and there was a splitting maul. Outhouse was also well maintained and clean. No cell service but, in reach worked fine. Beautiful and relaxing setting. Would recommend for fishing or just spending time outside in seclusion.
