When we paddled in the cabin door was open, rubbish like beer cans in the firepit and spreaded aroud. The (emptied) fire extinguisher was thrown in the firepit. Firewood was thrown in the rain...Stupid people...We cleaned this beautiful place and left it as good as possible.

The cabin was nice and clean and supplied with wood which we used one night. It's hard to pack things over the rocky beach and slippery grass so was just wondering why the cabin wasn't put on the next beach over, just an observation we made while packing all our camping stuff. I really only have one complaint and that is the price of the cabin! $80 a night is way too much so we only stayed 2 nights instead of 3. I remember when the cabins were $5 a night. Why is this? And why can't locals have a discount? They would get used more for sure. Seems everything is directed towards tourism but we are not tourists, our tax dollars help build these little cabin and so we'd just like to enjoy them more at a more reasonable rate. Thank you.

I've been going to our local Forest Service cabins for some 20 plus years and always enjoy getting away from it all especially in the trying times of the COVID-19 virus. Cabins used to rent for $25 per night and were always well stocked with wood anytime of year. This is our second time going to a cabin where there was not one scrap of wood to be had. Normally a cabin should have some wood and kindling for anyone in an emergency needing shelter and warmth. Our cabin had nothing! The shed was completely empty and the cabin had only been used twice this whole year. For $75 a night it would be nice to count on that woodshed at least having some wood for us to split and burn. Although it's summer time it still gets cold at night and we had an air mattress malfunction leaving us on the hard, cold bunk. Alava Bay is a beautiful location, very remote with great fishing. Plan to arrive and depart at high tide though otherwise it's very difficult to load and unload your boat!
