The trail is challenging due to mangled fallen trees (starting 2.5 miles in) and unmaintained swampy areas. This trail includes sections which are permanently flooded, so bring your xtra tuffs even on dry days.
Overall, the cabin location is underrated and the trail miles (5.1? 7?) are well earned!
As of 01/01/2023 the trail was in decent shape, a few areas were washed out and steep. That made it more difficult than it looked on paper. One of our party didn't have a lot of experience hiking in ice/snow, so that made it very difficult for them. Because of that it took us 8hrs (!) to hike the 5.5 miles. The trail has reflective markers pretty regularly, so it's doable in the dark.
Of the things that tend to disappear from these cabins there was still a splitting maul, hand saw, snow shovel, working broom. No dry firewood in the wood shed, but there was a porcupine living under it. So watch out if you've brought your dogs! All in all its a great spot to explore. Take care of it if you use it!
