holy cow this campsite was small! a tight fit for two person-sized bug out bivy tents. beautiful heavily forested area - site 10 is right next to the overlook and botanical trails. the overlook in particular is very worthwhile

The weather was perfect, the campground was nearly empty, and the host was friendly and helpful.

I like this campground and return often... a wide variety of sites from shaded and spacious to sunny and close to the next site. The lower loop has a bit of highway noise but traffic pretty much stops at dusk... occasionally on weekends bike and rod runs can be noisy. The sites close to the creek suffer some from insects. The pit toilets are typically clean but, yeah, they can smell. Weekends can be rowdy, weekdays you most likely will be by yourself. Just a couple miles from Sierraville with small store, coffee/restaurant(s). There is a quick easy botanical trail at the back of the campground with an overlook spur that isn't bad but not easy either, ask camp host for trail guide. NO CELL SERVICE... nada, nothing not even with fancy antennas...
