Beautiful area, camp sites well tended and amply spaced apart. Restrooms clean and tidy. A bit of a trek getting to the campground but well worth the effort.

Mesquite river road was very windy, narrow and took 1.5 hours. If you get car sick make sure to prepare. Campground was very nice and spacious. There are some toilets with running water which make the experience so much better, especially with kids. Access to the beach from this campground is limited and the shore is very rocky. It's also very windy. If you drive 2 miles down the road you can access the American River and a more shallow resevoir beach area across from Lewis campground. Perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding.

The campground was awesome. Easily the best amenities I've seen at any campsite. Clean bathrooms, access to trash and recycling, potable water, and each campsite was perfectly well maintained with a firepit, bear locker, and picnic table. We stayed in campsite 36 and had almost direct access (through the trees and down the hill) to the lake which, itself, was very relaxing. We had a couple deer approach our campsite after dark but they kept their distance and continued on. Highly recommend French Meadows!
