Very nice and clean campground. We were on site #8, and while there is a trail that led to the water, it was too steep for us to want to try for the one evening we stayed. We had no problem with our tent and the site would easily accomodate a camper, too. Not overly large, but easy walk to the amenities, canoe storage, and boat launch.

Very clean sites. Well maintained roads and trails. Outfitting service and staff are world class. I hope to return year after year.

Well maintained rustic campground. Most sites have good privacy. Sawbill Outfitters has a fantastic store just minutes from your site. A nice way to try paddling into the boundary waters for beginners.

Overall it is still f my favorite campground. It has become much more popular as there have been a number of first timers this year as well as last. With this there has been an increase in the number of larger campers/motor homes. The unfortunate result of this popularity is the increase use of generators as well as people who miss the meaning of having the priviledge of camping in such a great place. We are thankful the campground hosts take a proactive path in reminding the campers of the rules. Yep if I was a bear I'd have a great feast going through the sites where the Citifolk left their coolers/food out. But then the DNR would have to do a way with me due to the stupidity of humans. It's the same stupid ones who drive the worng way through the campground along with those that travel way too fast. If you are in a big arse hurry to get someone, aren't considerate of others, do believe rules apply to you and/or are too lazy to pick up after yourselfve please don't come here. The fair majority of use campers who come here do so for the peace and quiet as well as having the ability to get away from the stress associated with working. Over the years of camping at Sawbill, (that'd be 47 for me), we've met wonderful people. I wish the USFS would come up with a way off being able to fund the needed improvements. I would suggest a per night fee above that of the nightly camping charge, that would be dedicated strictly to site improvements/maintenance.
