Maybe there should be a notice of that you need to dump in the village along with the directions. Other than that its a nice quiet place.

We did not end up staying at this campground. It was nothing more than a patch of grass with no shade on a 95 degree day. The reservoir nearby looked nice but we did not stay to check it out. If we had arrived later in the day or at night this $10 campsite would have been fine. But midday with the heat it looked like pure misery. We drove on a found another campground. At first glance it did appear clean and well kept but I can’t say for certain. Plant some trees.

First off, Thank You for making this campsite reservable on RECREATION.GOV!

We enjoyed our visit to Cold Brook Campground near Hot Springs, SD.

There is a narrow, winding dirt/gravel road that gets you from the town of Hot Springs to the recreation area and campground. We chuckled while driving in because about half way between the town and rec area there are black rubber speed bumps and we were thinking, "who would possibly go more than 15 MPH on this road!?" But as we were setting up in our campsite we witnessed about a half dozen cars just hauling butt out of the day use area; fish-tailing all over the place and possibly racing each other back toward town. So i guess the USACE knows their customers, and hopefully those speed bumps will save some lives! I'm just glad we didn't arrive a few minutes later or there could have been a real unfortunate incident with all those cars speeding headlong at us.

The campground itself is small, with only 12 or 13 sites and it offers only dry camping. There is a centralized water spigot attached to a small structure between campsites 9 and 10. Our campsite offered a level gravel pad with fire ring and picnic table. There is just about no shade at all in this campground so our solar array was going gangbusters. If shade is important for you, you might want to consider campsites 4, 6 or 8 as they back up to a bit of a bluff which will provide some relief from the afternoon sun. Campsites 1 and 2 back up to a marshy area which may provide you with a more buggy experience. Campsites 12 & 13 are the only ones 'on' the lake; all others campsites are a hundred or so yards from the lake

There are only vault toilets. No flush toilets, no showers and no dump station. The town of Hot Springs operates a dump station at their sanitation district for $5 per use. GPS Coordinates of that dump station are: 43.4233, -103.4681

We had usable cell service during our stay here.
