This is not a campground. At best, it's a highway rest stop with a few big trees. It is sooooo loud. I did a walk around the sites, and noticed the few campsites that had campers were filled with alcohol-drinking young adults - many more than should have been at a single site. This alone would not have bothered me, but the highway traffic - it's right there. There is not buffer - despite the campground map that made it look like a buffer. I got back in my car and headed back to Sutton Campground in the hopes they still had space. I didn't care that I had already paid for two nights at Tyee. I would strongly recommend avoided Tyee and trying Alder Dune, Sutton or even Honeyman SP. All are much nicer (and quieter!) better taken care of and seem more secure/safe.

We absolutely love Tyee campground. I love that I can put into the water straight from my campsite and I can go upstream and go to the lake. Or I can go downstream and kayak to the ocean! The traffic noise is a little loud. I just wish the trucks wouldn't use their jake brake all the way around that corner!! After while you don't even pay attention to it. And at night the highways actually very quiet. Was a little different this year without Glenn being the volunteer host, but there were no issues or problems while we were there. Just missed seeing him and knowing that he was there. There was no water at all at camp. I believe something to do with the piping. Not very convenient and if we were doing a longer stay it wouldn't have worked. We did have two different campsite people come over and ask about the water and if we had any or why the water wasn't turned on. Also, it seemed that there was a complete fire ban at the campground. I'm pretty sure the state park down the road allowed fires so I'm not sure why the fire band was at this campground. I get it. I'm from Central Oregon and even over here if you were staying in a campground you could have a fire last weekend. We love to go into town and eat dinner down on the bayfront. Nosh and ICM are our two favorite restaurants. Plus having a root beer from a&w is always good. We went to the military museum and it is well worth it! They have several things that you can do along the lines of scavenger hunt as you're going through. That's a lot of fun. But the displays and information they have in there is excellent.Kayaking down the river was absolutely wonderful! Otters, egrets, blue heron, raccoons, kingfisher, a deer crossing the river right in front of me! It just doesn't get any better than that!

No camp host and when I arrived, someone else was in my space. We parked by the boat ramp, kayaked for the day and went home. Didn't use the camp site.

The actual campsites are nice, but this is lots of highway and ORV noise. When we were there 7/29-30/2021, there was no camp host and some extremely inconsiderate, clueless and dangerous campers and squatters. One guy was squatting without a reservation at a reserved site, left when the party with reservations arrived, then but came back the next morning with a huge pile of firewood and built a huge smoky bonfire next to the party with reservations, then left without extinguishing it. The campground does have a good kayak/canoe launching area to explore the Siltcoos River Canoe Trail which is really great except for the horrible ORV noise pollution in the lower stretch below the dam. ORVs need to be removed from this section of the coast next to the Snowy Plover refuge, in my opinion.

Small, quaint campground. Most sites have access to the river from the campsite. Not recommended for RV's as most sites are extremely small.....tent camping mostly. We will definitely be back my granddaughters loved it!

We booked online only to find people setup in our campsite and no host on duty. I reserved online to avoid that very problem so was very frustrated. It was actually a blessing in disguise, as this place was dirty and loud and clearly nobody is regulating the guests or making sure reservations are taken care of so we went looking for another spot even though I had already paid for this one. Carter Lake campground, just down the road, had an open site for us and a nice host on duty. If that wasn't the case we would have been very sad campers for my birthday trip to the coast. We were there to float the Silt Coos River Trail, under other circumstances Tyee would have been a great choice since it is actually on the trail but also very close to 101 which is busy and loud so, again, I am kind of glad it didn't work out for us there.
