It had been 5 years since we camped at Lake Tahkenitch and not much had changed except the process of getting a camp site and the cost. I believe it cost around 9-10 dollars a night 5 years ago and we had a great time swimming in the lake, hiking and relaxing, even though the traffic was a little loud from the highway. This time we had to reserve on line in advance and we tried to remember the campsite we had before, but accidentally chose a different one. When we got there and realized we chose incorrectly, the camp hosts were great and just told us to take another empty spot as they were not reserved for the night. We were staying two nights and we were lucky no one wanted our spot the next night, so we didn't have to move. The cost with the online reservation fee of $8. was going to be $30. night, which we thought was outrageous for a campground with only pit toilets and no water! Luckily, we used our senior access discount and it cost us $32. for two nights. We are very disappointed that there are no first come fist serve spots which they used to have and the camp hosts agreed it was stupid way of operating the camp ground since there is no cell service or wifi. To change our reservation or reserve another night, we would have had to about 5 miles away to get reception and make a reservation. Not a good system and way too expensive!

The smallest site I have ever seen. Way too small! The camp hosts were very friendly but there was a Ranger who actually made us move in tighter because we were over the line (invisible) into the next site. The site next door had one car and one pup tent. It was a ridiculous request but we moved our tent and had about a twelve inch wide aisle between tents. The campers on the other side of them ignored the request to put their campfire out. They were from out of state so they could care less if Oregon burns. We hope they got fined but we doubt anything happened at all.
We’re grateful we had some camping time in and it was a beautiful lake but we probably won’t be back
