I was unprepared to find no water at all in the campground and somehow missed the fine print. Fortunately I was prepared with water in my van and most of my stainless steel water bottles happened to be filled with drinking water.
I certainly was not the only person expecting to find potable water in a forest service campground charging the full rate. There are many things no experienced campers expects to find in a forest service campground, such as showers. Those of us who have been camping for decades are having a hard time adjusting to this new world where full rates are charged even when the basic service of potable water is missing.
Even though it has meant rates are much higher, most of us appreciate the service provided by Campground Hosts. We welcome knowing that the campground will be reasonably well maintained, the vault toilets stocked with toilet paper and reasonably clean (often spotlessly clean) and quiet hours will be enforced.
But we are struggling with having to actively seek out the information that there will be water and, at a minimum, vault toilets.
