The site and the river were awesome, but the camp host ruined it for us. He was extremely rude and very quick to judge. We were the quietest campers in the campground yet he has a CAMERA pointed right at out campsite. This would be a great campground if they got a new camp host,

The facilities were not comparable to other campgrounds to deserve the same cost of booking

Bees were everywhere. Really fine dust made our campsite really dirty. Loud neighbors for a very small camp. Never saw the host. We had to help some other campers find their spots. I would never come here again.

My children were on a path next to our campsite and were attached by yellow jackets from a nest that was not visible in the ground. It was a horrific experience. The camp attendant was able to find the nest and destroy it and recreation.gov refunded us a nights stay as we left early because we were afraid my son would need medical attention, and I understand these things happen out in nature, but there was no warning of wasps or yellow jackets or anything and the attendant told us afterwards that he had been trying to find the nest. I wish we knew and could have prepared our children on what to do if they came upon these evil creatures. I have 5 children and none of them want to go camping again. I hope that changes. Our campsite was also covered in sand bees or some kind of bee. They didn't sting us, but they got into all our food and items--we dealt with it the entire time we camped until we were attached by the yellow jackets. That was it for us!

Had a great stay at Chilkoot! It's only about 15 minutes up a winding road from the main road around Bass Lake (road 274), but very quiet and secluded. The camp host Jerry was very welcoming and informative-- you can buy firewood from him or collect some in the area, and he can give you tips for Yosemite or other local activities. Definitely check out the nearby creek that Jerry can give you directions to, it's a gem. Yosemite was our primary purpose of the trip and it took about 30 minutes to drive to the park entrance and 1hour 40 minutes total to get to Yosemite Valley. Ultimately it worked out well for us just staying a couple days! Restroom is just a pit toilet and water is not available onsite so plan ahead or grab some nearby around Bass Lake. Also had almost zero cell service for Sprint and T Mobile so beware.

The host was super friendly, and informative about Yosemite. There was a really pretty creek with a mini waterfall after a short hike. Bring your own water, but other than that, it was a gorgeous place with so many trees. Isolated in the woods, spacious, and overall cute campground.

Although the closeness to Bass Lake was ok the site was too rustic and not clean. Bathrooms need to be redone. Sites are too sloped and none of the sites are handicapped accessible in reality. The campground needs a much needed revamp. Also signs directing to campground are needed!
