Eagle Creek is right off the main highway between Cody and the east Yellowstone National Park entrance. The easy access means you do get some road noise but can’t say I remember noticing it. No showers, pets allowed (on leash), clean pit toilets, river views, some pull-through sites.
A few things to be aware of:
* No tent camping. Must have hard sided accommodations because of bear visitation (though we didn’t see/hear any during our two weeks). This is a bigger issue up at Newton Creek campground a few miles up the road.
* There is no internet or phone coverage, which suited us fine.
* The campground host has been there for 15 years and often sets up free firewood during the week.
* There are fishing and horseback riding stables nearby. They are present for a few minutes each day, which is a rather nostalgic sound.
* All sites are FCFS with a 16 day maximum stay before you must camp at another campground. We got there in the middle of summer — peak season for nearby Yellowstone National Park — and had plenty of choice campsites to choose from. On weekends campers from Cody can fill it up but they only stay the two days.
* We have a Roadtrek 170 (about 17-18’ long) and as you can see from photos, there was plenty of room. Saw plenty of long RVs and motor homes.
* Mosquitoes are not a big problem if you have insect repellent.
* Pit toilets are handicap accessible and kept clean daily.
* You get fresh water from old fashioned water pumps!
