Pros: The campground is absolutely beautiful! The meadow is so green and full of new plant life after the large amounts of rain and snow from this past year. The weather was cool with temperatures not exceeding 75 degrees and the nights were cold, offering a nice change in temperature. The lack of light pollution allowed for a beautiful view of the stars and shooting stars could even be seen. The Trail of 100 Giants is about 12 miles down the Western Divide Highway and is easy to access. There is a creek nearby that has the Nelson Trail near it that you can follow for several miles. The group campsite we stayed at was large enough to fit two vehicles and 5 tents we brought.

Cons: The group campsite we were at did not have a bear box and we had to share with the neighboring campsite that had two. This wasn't too much of a hassle except for the fact that this group, (and seemingly every other group at this campground), did not leash their dogs as were the camp rules and their dog would bark at us accessing our own food. Their owners said they could not leash their dog because it would make them more aggressive and that it wasn't their fault if their dog attacked us. We had several dogs from different campsites wander into our campsite while we were eating our meal and all we got from their owners was a "Sorry!" instead of them leashing their pets.

Other groups also decided that the beautiful sounds of forest birds and frogs was too boring for them and instead blasted Russian techno loud enough for us to hear all evening and into the night. This campground would receive a higher review if our neighbors had been more considerate of others that were there.

Another con is that the highway 190 to Springville was closed as well as the road to the Freeman Creek trailhead. We had to drive up from Kernville and through Johnsondale. Not much fishing was to be found as the bodies of water that were large enough to fish in were either closed or several miles of hiking away.
