The campsites sits up on the mountain about an hour from Kernville. Im leaving 4/5 starts because the host was pretty much non existent. They have a cute little gift shop that was open until 4pm the Sunday we arrived. It had souvenirs, basic camp supplies, food, but no wood. Campsite had no water but we were prepare. Additionally, the bathrooms get filled with flies mid day. Overall had a great time, campsite was clean and quiet.

The campsite was wonderful and the hosts were generous and kind. I would absolutely recommend this site to others. It is also directly across from the Trial of 100 Giants which was perfect.

The campground was beautiful, but ultimately we made the decision to not stay over night due to the fact that there were no bear boxes and we had food in our car. I should’ve paid attention more to figure out before hand if there was bear boxes, but I do wish there was a disclaimer of sorts online since bear boxes on campgrounds are more common than not.

Freaky nights; visited by a bear on the first night two times. The second night, the bear visited the campsite 5 times looking for food (thankfully our camp was clean but our car was damage by his claws). This location does not have Bear Boxes to put away your food, it does not have a Bear or animal prevention trash compartment nearby. You are forced to hide your food in your vehicle where you run the high potential of the bear breaking into or damaging your vehicle just to get into your food. Because you are forced to keep your food in the vehicle, the ice quickly melts due to the rising high temperature since you need to maintain your windows rolled up to prevent small critters from crawling into your vehicle, thus you are forced to spend top dollar for extra ice on a regular basis to prevent your food from spoiling. This location has had issues with bears for months and they have not done anything about the bear boxes.... I know this is bear country and this is the bears home, but if they are going to generate money to rent the space, they should also do it by providing bear boxes to their customers.

What a truly wonderful campground! The hosts are the warmest, loveliest people. It's a very small campground with only about a dozen sites so the kids could wander and still never be far away. We woke up every day to cows in the bucolic meadow across the creek from our tent. Site 4 has a large campfire pit with built in grill and hooks to hang pots. Two picnic tables. It's down a slope so my only complaint was having to schlep everything up and down the hill from the car every day (NOTHING can be left outside. Racoons roam at night and crows at any food left unattended in the day.) Directly across the street is the easy and informative Trail of 100 Giants. The kids loved all the climbing opportunities. Also nearby, Peppermint Falls and Alden Creek Falls with a natural water slide! Plus the host can direct you to a hidden waterfall. We were at the campground Monday through Friday and wish we could have stayed longer.
