Site 18 is the best! A lot fo reviews for this campground say that the spots are super close to each other, which is true. Except for sites 18, 20, and maybe 17. I stayed at site 18 and it’s got enough distance to other campsites and to one side it’s nothing but trees and you see mountains in the distance which is super nice. It’s very deep in the forest so you can’t walk to nearby trails or places to sightsee. Trail of 100 giants is maybe a 30-40 minute drive as well as dome rock. Bear creek trail and Nelson trail are the closest. Highly recommend Nelson trail, Bear Creek Trail was also very pretty and the closest to the campsite. Only giving 4 stars and not 5 because we weren’t allowed a fire due to recently posted restrictions. thankfully I brought a stove. Good trees to set up hammocks, we had two setup. A good stump to play board games on as well. Had a fire been allowed it would’ve been the best camping experience. But I understand the reasoning behind the restriction, just a bummer. A fire station is I believe north to the campground and in the morning, sirens were going off. Not sure why, but it was very ominous sounding. A bit noisier than other campgrounds I’ve stayed at, became silent by maybe 11pm-12. Water spouts weren’t working!! We brought enough water thankfully and I think most people do anyway, so not a huge deal. 10/10 had a fire been allowed :) book site 18 if you can!!

We loved Coy Flat. The campground and surrounding areas are quite beautiful. If you drive past the campground about 4 miles you will find several very giant sequoias, just before the entrance to an Indian reservation. What a treat that was!
