There was someone in our spot and the original site I booked, glad though as that site had so many gnats and bees. We ended up happy with the spot they moved us to. Great central campground and we loved the jets flying over.

Good but its not that cold as we expected. But there are more insects.

The photos do not do this site justice. Beautiful area to pitch tent that overlooks the river and hillside. Highly recommend. Drivable to both Kernville and Trail of 100 Giants Trailhead. Site 12.

Glad I had found a video that showed all the different sites beforehand as some are quite large and others are tiny or right next to the pit toilets. Need to mention that among pit toilets, these are the stinkiest I've known. Lots of trash strewn about the campsites, from microtrash on up to dogdoo and used toilet paper. All in all, a really dirty campground.
The location is good, right on the Kern. It's in a beautiful canyon.
Beware fighter jets flying right overhead. Sounds like a bomb arriving out of nowhere suddenly and going to crash.
Also note there is no cell service, but about 5 miles down the road is a resort with wifi if you need.

Great spot. However, very hot, not a lot of shade. Good location to trails and river is a short walk.

It was a clean site. Be prepared to bring your own water.

Best part of this site was the river. We were disappointed there was no running water otherwise. Not lots of space between the sites. Good campground to stop at while driving through mountains, but not much to do besides swim.
