Important to understand that access to Eshom Campground is via a 45 minute rugged forest road that doesn't seem suitable for low clearance cars. The remoteness adds a lot of driving time in and out. At the time we were at the campground there were prescribed fires in the immediate vicinity. While we appreciate the Forest Service's tireless work - had we known the situation, we would not have come due to the thick smoke.

The campground was spotless and the camp host was amazing , we’re used to seeing him in big meadow but it was good to have him in eshom this year. Bathrooms were also spotless and clean

Great camp host, friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were very clean. Definitely would recommend taking the directions given by recreation.gov to access the campgrounds via Whitaker Forest Road and not google maps unless you are capable of doing some light off roading on a dirt forest road with some rocky sections. I decided to cut through the forest road on our second day and it's doable (I saw a couple mini vans and a Prius do it!) but I wouldn't recommend it with a vehicle fully loaded with camping gear and bikes. There is a couple of great light advanced single track trails accessible from the campsite that I rode on my mountain bike, these are found using Trailforks app easily. If you take the forest road up to highway 180, you go straight into the national parks bypassing the entry gate which is a $35 fee. We did this unknowingly the first day but went around the second and found out- it also saves you about 20-30 minutes in driving time given you have a vehicle that can make it up the road. Overall great experience and would visit again if campsites with showers were not available.
