The Redfish Cabin is always warm and toasty after a cold ski in. The other renters have always left it spotless. The views of Redfish Lake and the Sawtooth Mountains are stunning. I have been in many times as a favorite retreat. Glad the Forest Service keeps renting it.

We just got back from one night, x-country skied in and had a lovely stay. Cabin is warm and comfortable and the view and quiet is amazing! Notes: Pots and pans are a bit worn, the knives are very dull, there are only 2 bowls and 3 plates (there were 5 or six mugs and glasses, a reasonable amount of silverware, multiple wine openers, and a reasonable assortment of cooking utensils), the larger burner on the stove does not work (the other 3 smaller ones do). There are no "extras" (salt, oil, etc...) that you might find at other spots, but there is a coffee maker, microwave, oven, and teakettle.

Always a great trip. Very relaxing. Cabin is well-furnished, just the right distance to snowshoe into, and you get Redfish Lake to yourself. A must do.

I had a very nice experience this time now that the road and parking lot construction is complete and the propane stove in functioning. I always make a hike to the Alpine Way trail and this time was no different. There was packed snow on the trail past the wilderness boundary but it was very walkable. Great views as always on a sunny day.

The Redfish Cabin is warm and cozy. The refrigerator, microwave, electric stove, coffee maker, and gas furnace make it very comfortable. Melting snow for water and using the outhouse are not a problem. This was my third overnight this winter and I feel so lucky. As someone who lives in the Wood River Valley, staying at the Redfish Cabin and skiing across Redfish Lake on the frozen lake and looking at the Sawtooth Mountains are a treat and a real vacation. There was need for newer kitchen equipment, so I bought newer pots and pans, more forks, a new guest book, and a really nice tea kettle. All of this was bought at Ketchum's Goldmine at a reasonable price. It is nice to feel so connected to this beautiful, rustic cabin.

The cabin was clean and the heating worked perfectly! Had slight issue with the front door (the one the leads from outside into the kitchen). It appeared as though the door frame was swollen from water, making it extremely hard to get the door shut. We appreciated the puzzles that were left at the cabin prior to our visit. No dish soap at the cabin, make sure to pack that.

Had a good time, I just took myself and my children up there for the night. Nothing fancy, just some peace and quiet at a cabin on the lake. It was amazing

The timing was perfect. Brisk Fall, no crowds, the lake to ourselves. Warm and toasty in cabin. Vault toilet was spotless. Top bunk is a challenge to get into for us old folks, but it was fun! We will be back!

We try to use the cabin at least one time during the off season (not available for rent during peak season). There is something magical about having Redfish almost completely to yourself. This is particularly true if you visit in the summer. Sure, the water is not as inviting but the mountains are still majestic.

The Redfish Cabin is a wonderful winter overnight stay. It was clean, warm and ready for my visit. I met the guests who stayed before me and they are regulars to the Cabin as well. They left a gallon of bottled water in the refrigerator so the need to melt snow was much less. Another 6 inches of snow fell over night. Beautiful.

Everything at the cabin was great. We really appreciated having the door to the bathroom open; we set up a small portable toilet with a bag to use at night, which we could empty into the vault toilet during the day. It was nice having the propane fireplace working!

The cabin near Redfish Lake is charming. Only one bunk bed so best fit is for two to three people. Nice adventure skiing nearby.

Decent cabin but theyre some huge noisy thing living behind the shower tub and its LOUD. Also its fairly hard to get warm when temps go down to 0.

It is unfortunate that the Sawtooth Ranger District has such a low priority for making the cabin experience remarkable because it has the potential for that. On the plus side most of the guests who stay there love the cabin and do a great job in taking care of it. The current road construction project, part of which is directly in front of the cabin, results in a hike from the trailhead parking lot. That information is not given to guests until AFTER the reservation is made. The lodge is currently closed so there is no good reason not to park at the lodge which cuts the walk in by one half. Of course, that won't matter after it snows and the road is closed. Be aware that only the two wall heaters in the living room are functional and they can barely keep the cabin warm. All in all Redfish Lake in the off season has its own magic and this cabin makes that possible.
@RobertR8191303 · Camped on Oct 15, 2023 at Campsite #RF1
There is a lot of road construction taking place near the Visitors Center and the heavy equipment is making a lot of noise including the constant backup beeping sounds. This construction is planned to continue until winter of 2024, thus it is probably best to skip this cabin until 2025.

we had a great time here. This was our second visit to the cabin. What a contrast from summer time activities at Redfish. It was quiet, beautiful and the stars at night were just amazing. this is a electricity cabin only so you need to haul in water or melt snow, we did both and used the snow melt for dishwashing and cleaning. What else can I say, reserve now and go have a great time. Oh, and we nordic skied on the lake! Surreal.

We had a blast at the cabin. Such a special and peaceful experience essentially having Redfish Lake to ourselves for an evening. We will be back again next year. Make sure you bring a trash bag, some king of cleaning wipes (or something to wipe down surfaces before you leave), and something to clean your dishes with.

Cabin was clean, view is astounding. We had a terrific fire one night which was nice. The stove worked, bed was comfortable. What I really missed however was that the propane stove is once again out of order-making at least 3-4 years. The stove makes the living area warm and toasty, versus simply heated.
