My experience arriving at Jemez Falls campground beginning 11 August 2023. I received an email stating there would be a gate code from 1 - 31 August, upon arriving there was no need for a gate code.I stopped at the camp hosts site to introduce myself and figure out which site I was supposed to be at, but there was a sign stating not on duty on the door of his camper. It struck me a bit odd to not be on duty on a Friday evening when the majority of your weekend campers are arriving.I got to the site I purchased for use and found the sign Chavez 7/15 - 7/17. This was not only at my site but similar signs at every site. I maintained a copy of my email just in case there was an issue. I walked around the campsite and each and every site stated someone was staying at the site somewhere in July timeframe even though it was august. The camp host had NEVER driven around on his golf cart to introduce himself or to even check in to see if I was even a paying camper. The vaulted toilets were not maintained as the toilet paper was running out and it appears that the toilets hadnt been emptied or cleaned in a very long time. Fire pits were full of garbage and old burnings. I knew we were in stage 2 fire restrictions, so no fires at all in the campsite, yet Friday night I counted four different fires at various campsites. On Saturday I stopped the USDA Law Enforcement Officer and he confirmed that there were stage 2 fire restrictions in place. I told him there gad been fires the night prior, and they were aware there gad been fires but they cant be everywhere and rely on the camp host to notify them if the violation. Saturday evening I seen two other campsites with fires. Why was the camp host not even patrolling to see if there were fires. These hosts are the worst I have ever seen at any park Ive visited. Something needs to be done about this as having fires at Stage 2 Restrictions is extremely dangerous.
