After hearing of some issues at the group camp, I was able to get in touch with the caretakers of Bluff Mesa Group camp. (It was not easy as they were having phone issues up in Big Bear, but they responded quickly to my voice mail message. They heard my concerns and sent someone out to address the issues before our arrival. They went above and beyond to make sure the campsite was ready for our arrival... even sending someone out the day of our arrival to clean things up. It was a good thing too, as someone had used the firepit for a fire and left it still hot. The host was able to douse it and covered it up so it would not be used. The campsite was beautiful and the pit toilet was in great shape. We did have a few people try to enter the camp. That could easily be stopped by parking a car between the two trees at the entrance to the campsite. I had not been to this campsite in over 7 years and was so pleased to the addition of bear lockers. Years ago, bears were starting to an issue, but by using the lockers, no bears were seen. There were definitely more campers nearby, parked off the road leading to the group camp than we were used to seeing over 7 years ago. I didn't remember people being able to just park and camp on the side of the road leading to bluff mesa, but the group camp is set so far back, we didn't really notice them. Again, Kudos to those that manage this campsite as they went above and beyond to remedy issues left by other campers (official or not) and made our visit a wonderful experience yet again.

For $150 per night, you too can sleep next to human feces. Its a beautiful campsite, the problem is the toilet there is full and has not been pumped. Campers have taken it upon themself to make their own restrooms, all over the campsite itself. Poop pits, toilet paper, poop on toilet paper- you name it. Not only that but as a previous reviewer mentioned, there was strangers who pulled up early one morning to meander around without acknowledging us which was a little unnerving given the fact that this campsite is the furthest group site out there on its own trail. Though the area is nice, we now refer to this campsite as the poop pits and wont be returning.

The campsite was a large secluded area that provided enough space for everyone to space out comfortably. We'll definitely be back!

Campsite was great and amenities were great. however after going to big bear lake for the day I came back to the site to find strangers parked in the campground no where to be found, the turned up a couple of hours later after hiking but didn’t acknowledge me or my group at all. We also had multiple groups of people come to use the pit toilet who also did not acknowledge my group or seem to care they were trespassing on a reserved site.
