Had a ton of fun at the lakes— the big lake seemed to have the best swimming spots, but both lakes were fun to fish at. Campsites further from the water (such as site 17 which we were at) seemed to have a much higher population of mosquitos than the sites and areas right on the lake itself. The overall biggest hassle for us was that although we knew we’d have to hike into the campsite, we didn’t know it would be so steep, so it was difficult to pack everything down even with a wagon because we couldn’t load it very full or it would tip or shake things out because of the rough terrain. I also had to look around for the campground map since I didn’t see it on the main page or reservation pages for squaw lakes. It’s easy enough to find though, and really helpful to have on hand when you’re at the campground trying to find a bathroom or a water pump. Parking descriptions are also a little ambiguous, but we found some spots along the road that seemed to be pullouts meant for our specific campsite and were able to keep our cars there for the duration of our stay so that was really nice. Of course this would mainly apply to campsites that are actually along the road.

All in all it was a fun trip and we plan to return in the future even though we had a rough time in the beginning trying to find things and pack everything in. Once we were set up though, it was pretty relaxing! There is plenty to do especially as long as you don’t mind getting a little (or a lot) dirty while you’re there!

AVOID this location at all costs. THE SINGLE WORST CAMPING EXPERIENCE EVER AND OUR ONLY BAD 1 ALL SUMMER. CAMP HOSTS WERE HOSTILE AND PUT OUR PARTY IN DANGER!!!!!! HOSTS WERE MORE INTERESTED IN DOING DRUGS AND NAPPING THAN ACTUALLY HELPING GUESTS TO THE PARK. HOST WAS LITERALLY DOING DRUGS IN FRONT OF OUR CHILDREN AND REFUSED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT WHERE OUR CAMPSITE ACTUALLY WAS. WE HIKED 2 MILES IN & OUT WHILE CARRYING SEVERAL POUNDS OF GEAR EACH TO FIND WE HAD NO SITE AT THE LAKE. HAD TO HIKE BACK TO HOST SITE AND YELL HELLO SEVERAL TIMES AND STILL NO HELP. HAD TO SCREAM MY FAMILY NEEDS HELP TO GET THE HOST TO QUIT DOING DRUGS WITH HER FRIENDS AND RUN OVER. THEN THEY WERE MAD AT US FOR BEING LOST AND NEEDING THEIR HELP. WE HAD 2 KIDS PACKING FOOD AND BEHIND ON THE TRAILS WITH DANGER BEARS SIGNS ALL OVER. THE HOSTS WERE HOSTILE THREATENED TO FIGHT US AND SCREAMED OBSCENITIES AT US AS WE SEARCHED FOR OUR CHILDREN & LEFT IN THE DARKNESS. THEY HAD A QUAD AND LIGHTS AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. 2 HOUR + DRIVE HOME DURING WHICH 1 OF THE TEENS HIT A DEER AND RUINED HER CAR. HAD TO DRIVE TO RECEPTION AND CALL TOW. GOT HOME AT 2AM AND NO CAMPING. AVOID AVOID AVOID HORRIBLE LOCATION AND WORST HOSTS EVER IN THE HISTORY OF HOSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
