We stayed at site #13 and it was great. Beautiful spot right on the lake, perfect for swimming with crystal clear water. Clear enough to see the fish. Quiet and peaceful. Shaded during the hot afternoon. The stars were amazing. We saw deer, an otter, lizards, bats and a little scorpion! Bugs weren't bad, though. As mentioned it's a long walk to the closest bathroom so you have to be intentional, and an even longer walk to the 1 working water pump. But we came prepared and it was fine. Gorgeous spot!

Dangerously steep terrain at this site. Don't bring much even if you have it ported in because it's hard to bring things down the trail to the campsite. Sloped campsite. Great access to the lake.

Even without potable water and dark pit toilets, a week here was a dream come true. But I advise absolutely avoid the weekends! There was about 6 people there all week until Saturday, when about 90 showed up. I left a day early because of this.

What a hidden little gem! There is a parking area just down the road from the campground entrance trail. Shuttle services for your gear are usually available but we just carried our gear. The campsites surround this beautiful lake situated in the middle of a forest. The campsites aren't secluded from the trail but they are from other campsites. There was only one other site taken while we were there so it was extremely peaceful and serene. We will absolutely be returning!

It's more like a half mile hike from parking lot. Also has steep terrain so don't bring a lot of stuff. Mosquitoes are brutal too.

We have been enjoying Squaw Lakes for over 30 years. Things have changed due to mismanagement. During our annual 4 day family trip, three things occurred that we haven't seen before. Trash was not picked up in a timely manner resulting in bears visiting camps on a nightly basis and strewing garbage around the main trail. Secondly, a car came into the main lake area, drove around the lake to the bay and parked, where the occupant let their dogs play and swim for over an hour. No motorized vehicles are allowed. They had a key. And lastly, a camping group on a Saturday partied until well after 3am echoing loudly over the lake. Nothing was done by the park host. We're all into having a great time, but not at the expense of others, especially at a lake like this. We called the local BLM office which referred us to the director's email. We sent our concerns but never got a reply. That will be our last visit. A gem lost.

We were super lucky to have the lake all to ourselves the last week in July. The shlepper guy with the cart was a blessing! The water was perfect, and almost no smoke in the air. Already thinking about next summer. Hoping to find it smoke free once again. The camp sites were not 100% cleaned up, but good enough for us.
