I have been going to Groom Creek Horse Camp for over 14 years and this last camping visit was the probably the first time I had a negative experience. The camp hosts were pretty much nonexistent during my 5 day visit. Upon arrival, I stopped to check-in upon arrival and no one came out of the camper. I was not until the next day that the host(s) stopped to introduce themselves and the was the last time I saw them. I was in the B Loop and 3 days in, the water spicket broke. Multiple calls were made to the host(s) who were unavailable and the fire department came out to assess the situation. With my suggestion, a buckle strap was placed to stop the leaking, but as a result, there was no water access from that spicket the rest of my stay. Both the male and female bathroom chute toilets were full and stunk quite bad. My guess is, they were not emptied due to the end of the season being only a few days away. There was a woman with 3 horses in Site B15 who had 2 horses in the permanent paddock and 1 horse in an electric fence set-up. Per another camper, these horses were loose a day prior to my arrival. On Sunday of my stay, all 3 horses were running loose in Site B8. The horses then charged my friend and her horse in Site B11. My friend was almost trampled by these horses while trying to calm her horse. With my help, the 3 horses were chased off over the hill towards C Loop. I went to the woman in Site B15 to inform her and her words to me were "I did not think they would go that far." These horses then came back and charged my friend's site and also my site. This incident was told to the camp host(s) and evidently, the camper told them her horse broke the permanent paddock panel and the other broke out of the temporary paddock. Thus, nothing was done about the incident. During my 5 day stay, there were a total of 6 dogs between Sites B10-15 that were running loose the entire time; sometimes coming into my site. The camp host(s) were aware of this.

Great time! Host greeted us
Right away and was very welcoming. Camp spots were spacious with great corrals. There were mule deer all around:). Water and bathroom facilities were so great to have. Great trails nearby. We will be back!
Will be back.

I sure do love Groom Creek Horse Camp! We got to ride every day of the six days I was there and we saw lots of mule deer, and coyotes. I really do like the fact that they make you have a horse or two before you can camp here and the horse people are certainly a lot nicer than most of the public in camping spots.
The bathrooms really need a lot of help this time as they are not up to par like they usually are win the Camp Hosts are there. I sure would like to see Joe and Nancy come back left next year as Camp Hosts as they are the best!
