Frenchman Campground is located in the Beckwourth Ranger District, Plumas National Forest (45 min northwest of Reno, NV) with an elevation of 5,627 feet. There are a total of 17 campsites. The campground is normally open from the end of May to the beginning of September. Sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 25 and 45 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Prices start at $38.00 per night. Some amenities include boat ramp, swimming. Activities include boating, fishing, hiking trails, floating sports.

Stayed at Frenchmans campground by the lake and we had a great time! It's Beautiful their! The site was clean and the Hosts were knowledgeable and funny!! Will definitely go camping at Frenchmans campground again.

The sites all sit on a slope so if youre tent camping be prepared not sleep well. Our friends that were with us sleep with a cpap and they harassed us about the super quiet generator being on. All while the party down from us were partying until 3 am. Or the dogs barking all day and night. Make it make sense! But theres lots of super cute chipmunks that just play all day and are so fun to watch. The lake is right there which was nice to walk down to and jump in to cool off. Absolutely no cell service so it was a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of life.

The restrooms are clean and well stocked. About the best you can have for pit toilets. Camp hosts are available and helpful.The campsites at Frenchman Campground. The mostly back in sites have smallish paved area so you cannot put a table out next to your trailer or RV. So for most sites you either walk up or down to the area which has the picnic table and fire pit. This area is bigger but not level. Dusty due to lots of foot traffic.

Site 36 is adjacent to the lake, has good views and large spot. The lake is beautiful and never felt crowded. However the entire site is on a hill. There were not flat spots quite large enough for a 4p tent. Also the picnic bench and fire ring area are on the same hill so all sitting areas are uneven. Camp bathroom was kept very clean. However I wish the host would have enforced quiet hours more. Our neighbors were yelling and partying well past 1:30 am.

Yellow jackets everywhere. The population was out of control. Its not like we saw a few, there were swarms at the dock and all over the shore. The campsite host was cold and rude. Curfew was not enforced. There was loud music, loud talking and flashing lights well past 11pm.

* Frenchman Campsite#23 and Campsite#24 share a common paved area for vehicles. They should be merged into a single "double" campsite. This past Memorial Day weekend, Campsite#24 at one time was occupied by more than 15 people. I hesitate to imagine the pandemonium had our campsite#23 (party of 2) been likewise populated.* Please consider making areas of your campgrounds designated as "no generator" areas. RV's = fine, just "no generators".* Please consider making "Generator Use" hours more specific. - Perhaps 08:00-10:00 and 17:00-21:00

The hosts were both very nice and knowledgeable. The bathrooms were well kept. And the sites are very nice. 10/10 recommend and will return.

We rented a 24' trailer spot with a vehicle. It was horrible, on such a steep grade we barely fit, and no place to sit outside, to steep of a hill! Had a nice time playing in the water, but again no parking, and camp hosts where extremely uninviting. We were all in agreement, not going back to that camp ground

The restrooms were disgusting. Unfortunately the camp host does not clean the toilets. There was feces all over the insert of the toilet. I stayed there 3 days and not once did she clean the bathrooms. It was horrible. I have camped my whole life and I am fully aware outhouses don't always smell too good but these are horrible. Theres no water added to the mix so theres no way for it to desolve. Also she does not clean up the campsites after check out. When we showed up there were rocks on the table,toys and little pieces of trash all over the campsite. The lake was nice but the bathrooms were so disappointing. I would not return if the camp host was the same.

The campground is overall very nice. Our space, however, (#35), not so much. The entire site was on a slant and there was a steep walk down to the picnic table from where our camper was parked. Plus, the camper faced toward the street and was very close to it so people were constantly walking right outside our windows.

Awesome experience! #36 was the PERFECT spot - super quiet campground even on the weekend, lake water was super clean, campsite and bathrooms were well-tended as well :)

We were in site 24. Recreation.gov showed the site as 32 feet long. We have a 29 foot trailer, so there should have been plenty of room. Unfortunately, the site appears to have had some deterioration and the asphalt has dropped down... in addition, there are two trees that would have made it impossible for our truck to maneuver the trailer into the spot. As it was 4th of July weekend, there were no open spots. The site right next to us - literally sharing the same driveway... offered to switch sites with us, which saved the day. Things to know about Site 24... if site 23 had a trailer as well, we would have literally been looking in there windows from our trailer windows. The driveways are connected. Also, the campsite is on a hill - so be prepared to give your calves and glutes a good workout. We had a wagon which helped bring our items down to the table area - then down (and up) the next hill to the water. The campground was nice - although fairly narrow roads. If any cars stick out at all, it makes for tight turns. The fires did do damage to the campground and there are downed trees in a big pile; however, there are still plenty of trees and lots of shade. The lake is still as beautiful as ever!

Campgrounds were night, and the lake itself is beautiful, but I will not go back on a holiday weekend. Got there Thursday and it was peaceful, but by Friday night it was a nightmare. Loud music well after 10pm quiet time, loud people, and the camp host was no where to be found to silence the noise or help with the rude people.

Spot #30 is on a hill, so we battled a lot of kids/adults constantly falling, tripping or tipping out of chairs. This site wasn't very accommodating for more than 1 tent due to being on the side of a hill. There was a water spigot right near the site and bathrooms were close. The view of the lake was perfect but again the site itself was very not ideal and very uncomfortable. We ended up leaving right before bed on night two because we didn't feel like fighting our sleeping bags from sliding downhill in the tent all night again like night 1. Bathrooms were your normal vault toilets, nothing special. Oh zero cell service at this location too. Not a problem just making others aware. We would stay again but definitely not at this particular site. We were honestly surprised they made it a rentable site because it is not very fun to feel like you are constantly on the side of hill no matter what activity you do.

There is no way to back a truck and small trailer into this site, I found another unreserved site and move to that site. You can pull in but the trailer will be in the way of the road. This particular time the camp was quiet and good weather. No fish were biting.
