Ive been coming to this site since I was a kid (no in mid 20s) and its my families go to camping spot in Western Arkansas. Weve already decided this will our sons annual birthday camping spot. Its perfect. Its got tons of trees, and the lake. Most other locations youve got the trees and no water, or the water and barely any trees. If youre looking for a well-shaded, beautiful scenery, no cell-serviced spot, this is where you want to be. The family that currently maintains the park are fantastic. Theyre the sweetest and will do anything in their power to keep the campground safe and the campers happy. All that and teaching their children the value of hard work. Side note: if you use propane lanterns that require mantels, pack extra. The Walmart in town and the concession dont carry them. Youd have to go up the mountain to the visitor center to purchase. We learned that the hard way.

We camped there in January in our 26ft. self contained trailer. One other camper was there, just the way we like it. No water or services were available in winter. Hiked the trail around the lake clock wise. A little over 4 miles. At the end was a large tree blocking the trail. We had difficulty getting around it. We camp here several times a year. Winter is best for scenery and hiking.
