Generator use continues to be a problem at National Forest campgrounds. No national policy, just open to each concessionaire as to the hours of use. This type of policy is not compatible with having a quality camping experience to enjoy quiet and solitude of the outdoors. Their policy of allowing each concessionaire to determine the number of occupants, vehicles, and camping units per site also affects the quality of ones camping experience.

Extremely quiet when we were there. It was a weekend when we visited and sometimes you get some rowdy crowds but despite most of the sites being occupied, there wasn't much commotion. The campsites were a good hike from the lake access but they make up for that since the sites were very private and nicely kept. The paved driveways did make for some cramped conditions to set up tents. After walking around we discovered we had one of the largest sites too. Still, we were able to get a couple of big tents up and a small screen house so it worked for us. Some of the other sites would have been tough to get more than just a tent up. If you are dragging a camper you will have more than enough room as the paved driveways for all of the sites were nice and long and easy to back in. There looked to be showers available down by the swim area but they were posted closed due to staffing (we are used to hand-pumps and outhouses so showers aren't necessarily a selling point when a bar of soap and a walk into the lake is enough to keep the flies down) The staff was very nice and the bathrooms were clean. Flush toilets were a nice perk I didn't see when I reserved. The bugs (deer flies and skeeters) were pretty intense and made for some unpleasant walks to the beach and boat launch but there was hardly any breeze when we were there and it threatened to rain the whole weekend (very muggy and hot). We aren't wimps with bugs and this still wasn't my worst run-in with the local "wildlife" on a camping trip (I say wildlife as some of the sketeers had some decent size to them). Next time, I'd like to hit the hiking trails more and do some fishing with my kayak perhaps if the weather was a little cooler and later in the year when the bugs die down. P.S. I don't want to scare anyone away since the bugs were probably more to do with the weather than anything and if you can't take a few flying critters, you're in the wrong sport. Would definitely come back

What makes this place so amazing?? The privacy of the campgrounds (best part), the water access, and the ability to avoid crowds. I am a local, and hope to enjoy this area for many years to come. Side note: Some gun shots seemed a little too near the camping grounds.

The campground hosts were all extremely friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were well stocked and cleaner than other campgrounds we’ve visited. Been camping here for almost 30 years! Disappointed that the showers still aren’t open yet though.

Spent two nights so one full day of hiking and swimming. There was a good steady breeze that kept the mosquitoes to a tolerable level. First time camping at Clark Lake. Wasn’t sure if the car camping option would put us in the old growth area, but it did. Beautiful!!
