We had a great week with friends, took the trail to the visitor center, hiked a trail up to the top of a hill for the sunset, and generally enjoyed our stay. We had previously on other trips to OP driven the Ajo Mountain loop and hiked Alamo Canyon. This is an annual December trip for us.

My favorite National Park/Monument Campground so far! The scenery is otherworldly, beautiful walks, hikes and drives. And the campground perimeter trail and the trail to the Visitor Center allow dogs! What a treat! The campground is so well laid out that all those spaces actually feel private; the surrounding vegetation is lush (if you can call the desert lush). The night sky is beautiful and the educational opportunities mean a lot. We will be back. National Park Service is the best use I know for our tax dollars.

I almost hate to share how much we love this place, but one cannot keep such an amazing place to oneself. This is a treasure. Clean. Quiet. Beautiful. Be sure to drive the scenic drives. Watch the movie in the visitor center. Sit and marvel at the changing sky at sunset and rise. This is a remote park. Worthy of the trip, but make it one thats long enough to appreciate the magic of this place.
