Despite looking like a parking lot from overhead, Twin Peaks campground is actually quite pleasant on the ground. Sites are separated by a decent amount of shrubbery and cacti, and just a few short steps away from the campground are a handful of trails for experiencing the desert landscape in peace. Unique to Twin Peaks (in my experience) is the separation of sites into a "generator" and "non-generator" categories, so campers can decide which they prefer. Water spigots are located throughout the grounds, and the dump station, located just past the far loop of the park, has two full lanes of dump, flush, and potable water fill spigots. We visited in April and the campground was sparsely populated, making for a relaxing stay.

Wow! This campground was an unexpected gem of a place--from the check in to departure. Started out great when the ranger at the booth told us at the check in that we were eligible for a discount on our reservation and refunded the excess. We did not ask nor were aware of a discount so appreciated his kindness. Our campsite, on the end of the row, 35, was beautiful with a view to the west with the gorgeous Sonoran landscape. Our site as well as the whole campground was pristine--I don't think I ever noticed so much as a piece of litter in our camp, the campground or on the trails surrounding. Bathrooms were always clean. There was only one toilet stall and one shower stall in our bath house and the hot water, since it's solar heated was iffy. Not sure if they were all the same. For a desert campground, Twin Peaks is very vegetated with native plants and trees and we feel we lucked out on our site as the sites in the rear of the campground seem more sparse without the number of trees that are in the sites near the front (the generator loops). Sites are large and private feeling as well, with gravel and are level. We appreciated the nightly ranger programs while there--we went to two evenings, one on mountain lions and the second on astrology with a impressive live telescope viewing. They also have ranger walks and birdwatching during the day. Kudos to the dedicated rangers at this park!! The trails surrounding the campground were very nice with interpretive signs, and the scenic drive around the park is directly across the street where you enter to go to the visitor center and campground. Cell service was pretty good (T-Mobile) but connected to a Mexican carrier since you're 7 miles from the border. We appreciated the clean, maintained dump station on checkout--we've seen some pretty gross ones in county/state parks!! Really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful serene park in the lush Sonoran desert!

Gorgeous sites. Impeccable maintenance. Would be better if generator hours were 2-6 rather than 4-6.

Beautiful campground with nice separation between sites ... nice hikes adjacent to campground and short-driving distances away ... some sites slightly slanted, so bring leveling blocks if large rig ... staff and volunteer camp hosts were super friendly ... this is one of our TOP 5 campgrounds in the entire country !!!
