BLUF: What a wonderful surprise. Great access to the pacific crest trail. Green Hills Bar and restaurant 0.7 miles away at the resort with drinks and food for tired travelers. Playground for children on lake
GOOD: I can’t say what a pleasant surprise this place was. After a long drive, wildfires, and road closures, the 18 mile (35 minute) drive up the valley from the I-5 had me ready for the worst. Instead, the Green Hills resort is at the turn off for the rec area, and was a welcome host for dinner on an exhaustive drive north through California.
BONUS: Pacific Crest trail passes to the west nearby. Wonderful views of the valley in the morning.
Site: Very basic, but the bathroom was very close and clean. I can't remember if there were showers or not. There was a walking path to the lake (low due to drought) but the kids saw a playground and were instantly happy. A herd Deer passed by at sunset. Mosquitoes ever present. But not unmanageable.
BAD: Road to location is very downhill from I-5, then very uphill. 14 miles took 35 minutes. Steep drop offs on the 66 hyway.
