Cabin was clean, warm, and comfortable. We always enjoy our quiet break at Hamma Hamma.

What a beautiful and serene getaway this was. The cabin is stocked with just about everything you can think of, and the fireplace in the living room was perfect to do puzzles and board games by into the evening. We got a break in the rain and were able to have a fire. This place is incredible.

Need replacement mantels for gas lights. If possible, leave some at the cabin.Need light above the sink.

Wonderful cabin and location. There is a great loop trail to explore next to the cabin. Cabin was clean including well-supplied kitchen items.

The lock was broken and we couldnt get in to access the cabin during our reservation.

Bring your own lamps if you want it a little brighter at night. It's very cosy and quaint but it can be really dim with the propane lights, so a couple extra lamps helped a lot.

It is a lovely cabin and well stocked with essential kitchen stuff. The gas stove worked fine, but the gas fireplace didn't work and the mantels in the lights, well, the gas smell was just horribly overpowering so we used our headlamps. We want to go back in October but it is just too cold without any heat. We're seniors and the best of our camping days are done. There are a lot of games and interesting historical books. The situation with the gas made me nervous tho. The refrigerator is ancient and we didn't even try to use it, we just brought in our cooler. Supposedly there is a mouse problem but we never saw any. All in all this cabin is a hidden treasure with a flushing toilet,but no potable water. The gas situation....I'm just not sure that issue is safe. It needs addressing.

The cabin was quite clean and tidy when we arrived. There were no mice droppings visible. There was a bottle of a mouse repellant spray on the kitchen counter, which we used as directed. There was no evidence of mice during our entire stay. It would be helpful to know what is in the repellant, and if it is harmful to humans. It would also be helpful if the door lock could be de-activated during the daytime.

Cabin is gorgeous and well furnished. Be advised that the propane heater mainly only heats the central room, so the rest of the building can get chilly at night. I found the futon in the central room a more comfortable mattress than the bunk beds, in addition to being next to the heater. Bringing our own electric lanterns was also a good idea, since the propane lights don't light up every room perfectly.

I really liked this cabin despite some of difficulties with me accidentally turning the heat off and having to figure out how to restart it. Also, people need to be respectful of the rules as I spent at least an hour or so cleaning up dog hair off several areas. Pets are not allowed and this is on the information everywhere.

I found the cabin to be disgusting and clear evidence of rodents making resident claims. Every cabinet and drawer had mouse poo. Clearly there is no 'cleaning' service coming on Thursdays as listed. Many of the cabinets are empty and haven't been wiped down if ever since the building was constructed by the CCC. I wonder what the builders would say if they saw what the Forest has allowed this amazing place come to?? The bathroom hasn't been mopped for years! I had to laugh at the toilet brush as it appears to be the original one from the 40's! Really. I cleaned it with my cleaning products.The propane lanterns are the biggest topic in the log books and everyone is concerned about the propane smell along with the mantels don't fit correctly. The smell is terrible so you need to leave the door open or windows.I had read that the outdoor refrigerator wasn't working and the door was padlocked. I found the welcome binder a bit outdated and then located where is states there is a key for the refrigerator at the door. Well, with the light so dim you can't see the key! Well, it worked and you guessed it the frig was working! But that room is a mess and the outside was flooded so you have to about swim to get to your food.Things to consider:-Bring a headlamp and wear it around your neck (you'll thank me later)-Bring gloves for cleaning (everything is sticky and needs to be washed in hot water prior to using if you choose to use the cabin items)-Bring all your own silverware (don't use the cabins). First there is no running water inside other then the toilet, so how are people washing dishes.*Note: there is a water faucet outside and it works just not sure if it potable, so I boiled water to wash It's a beautiful location even in the pouring rain and it's very remote! I went solo and I felt safe but it's very remote! A few cars do coming up and turn around the drive and the trail is along the back side of the cabin so people were stopping to look.

If you want more shelter/convenience than camping, but still a back-woods/off-grid experience, this is a great choice that offers a glimpse of the history of Olympic National Forest. Nearby trails have some interpretive signs with info about the history. We also hiked to Lena Lake (drove to the trailhead, as the hike itself is about 6 miles). It's an uphill hike on an easy-to-follow route with a beautiful (&cold) lake at the end.

The Hamma Hamma cabin was amazing. We loved the cabin and it’s history. The only suggestions we have are to add more light fixtures in the kitchen and running water would be fabulous. What a great place for family to unplug and reconnect.

Amazing location and cabin. The care and attention used in the construction was striking. Enjoyed the trails right by the cabin, especially the waterfalls. My only complaints is that the previous tenants didn’t clean much. Considering the mice problem, it’s important.

This is our favorite NFS cabin, because the facilities are a little more developed than some others. We appreciate the indoor plumbing, which eliminates those late night trips in the dark to the outhouse! The only downside is, the bedrooms with the best beds can get quite cold at night. You can stay warm by sleeping on the futon in front of the heating stove, but this isn't as comfortable, and all the windows at that room means you're likely to be awakened at first light.

Cabin was cozy as ever. Due to a slick slushy driveway we parked at the bottom and walked up with all our gear. Little did we expect our weekend to turn into a blizzard lock down! We went from no snow to 2+ feet overnight! It was beautiful but we were also stuck. Thankful for the heat and amenities!

The place was cute and decently maintained. There were a number of mice and we saw two running around. The place is closed once a week for cleaning. But it is clear the cleaning is not being done. We were there the day after cleaning was supposed to happen. There was a clogged sink drain with food waste. We swept the floors and collected to dust bins of hair, dog hair, dust, food scraps and mice droppings. The door window screen is torn. The stove cooktop is greasy and could use a good cleaning. There were good scraps left on the counters. All the cast iron skillets, except one, were in bad shape and needed cleaning.
The propane lighting mantels over the kitchen table were not fitted well and leaking not burning all the propane and leaving the cabin with smell of propane. The light over the stove had no glass covering and didnt burn cleanly. The back bedroom mantel makes a popping sound when it burns. 2 of the three carbon and fire dectors were missing batteries and the fire alarm in the hallway was missing.
The gate at the bottom doesnt have a lock on it so visitors show up and makes it uncomfortable when people drive in at night.
The fridge and freezer need cleaning a thawing.
This place is nice and has been nice but it is going the way of another cabin over in Naches where it used to be really nice but slowly failing to maintain has resulted in lots of little things building up.

The cabin itself is beautifully restored and outfitted with everything you need to stay cozy. Unfortunately, it was clear that previous guests had disrespected this wonderful public resource by not cleaning up after themselves, as the Forest Service requests everyone do, since there is no clean-up crew coming between guests. It was also clear by the volume of pet hair present that people had been bringing their pets, which is unfortunate for other guests with allergies. Even though I loved the cabin, I likely won't stay here again because the culture of users seems to disregard the needs and experience of fellow users.

I've stayed at this cabin before, and love it. However, this time I wasn't able to get in because the code for the door lock didn't work. This is a fairly remote site with no cell service, so no calling the Quilcene Ranger Station. I returned home and called the ranger station, and they said they've been having trouble with that lock and are going to have someone check it out! I wonder how many others will be left out in the cold. We should get refunds at least.

Love this cabin more than life itself and it breaks my heart to see the neglect by the Forest Service. So many maintenance issues are not being addressed. The roof is in horrible condition, surprised it is not leaking. Also the cabin is supposedly closed for cleaning on Thursdays however I never see any evidence of that. When I stayed in March the windows were filthy and again 6 months later in October they were even worse! I always leave this cabin better than I found it so I cleaned all windows inside and out and made some new curtains for the windows. Please please please Forest Service start giving this precious cabin the TLC it deserves.
