The setting is beautiful and the history of the cabin is interesting. Beautiful and interesting places to including lakes, historic ghost towns.
The mildew and molds were too strong inside the cabin for us to sleep. We would have opened downstairs windows but the only screen was in the front door and the mosquitos were hungry and needed to be kept at bay. we were not able to stay and loaded up and left due respiratory irritation from molds/mildew. Those with more hearty lungs might not have been impacted as much. The area is worth visiting even if you have to plan other lodging.
I did not expect a fancy hotel and I do not want this to reflect bad on the Forest Service. Not sure anyone could expect more for $50 per night. Being provided propane, cook stove and utincils, wood stove, wood, and a roof is worth way more than that. Just an honest warning for anyone who may have more sensitive respiratory systems.

Nice cabin and very peaceful area. Note that the amenities were not as listed on the website. You do need to bring lighting for the cabin, only propane light was in the kitchen and it was very dim (need new mantal). Could have used a mop as well, but otherwise very nice selection of pots and pans and dishware.

Place was in fair shape, but bracing is needed under kitchen floor as the dishes rattle in the. cupboard when you walk across floor. We took a string of lights and generator for lights in front room and kitchen, worked very well.
New deck of pinochle cards needed as the existing deck is getting a little sticky.
Enjoyed reading some of the stories in journal, recommend “kids only journal” be renewed as I believe it would be beneficial for family participation.
Very enjoyable cabin in the woods, hope it is maintained for many more years of use.

What a great cabin! For one, the beds upstairs were comfortable! But seriously, let's start with the place. The cabin is set off of a quiet road. It's perfect. There is some private property close by, but you can't see it or the people, or hear anything at the cabin. It's set in a nice shaded area, had a nice porch to sit under on a hot afternoon, and fire ring to sit around. The vault toilet was not too far, but far enough that you didn't have any smells wafting by. There is no water nearby, but you can access Mill Creek just about 0.6 miles up the road for dish/shower water. Kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans and dishes. Since there is no sink, there are three large dish washing pans that made life a lot easier. There were board games to play (we left a couple new ones for you to enjoy), and some books to read. And access to the Gospel Hump Wilderness is unbeatable!

Nice quit place. Bring "D" size batteries for the lights and a 1pound propane tank for the gas lamp hanging from the ceiling. There were a some mouse dropping on the window sills and we could hear the mice at night. I should brought a few glue mouse traps. No batteries in the smoke detectors 9volt type. What ever you do do NOT go up Slate Creek road to the cabin. We stopped at the ranger station and the sign said the were "virtually working" so I guess they are "virtually" grading this road as it was full of pot holes and very narrow in places. Town site of Florence is worth driving too.

Terrible experience. Had a hunt planned that required staying in the cabin but I was never given the lock combination to get in. I called customer service and they didn’t have the combination, I called the ranger station but they weren’t open and didn’t return phone calls. I had to cancel my trip due to me not being able to get into the cabin and the poor customer service.

Stayed at Adams Ranger Station right after the 4th of July. A great place to get away from it all. But not the first time I have stayed there; my father was the District Ranger there in the 1950's and we lived there in the summer months, then move back to Grangeville right before school started. Brought back a lot of great memories.
