Carson City, Nevada’s capital, is a gateway to outdoor adventures and historical sites. Washoe Lake State Park, just outside the city, offers camping, hiking, and stunning views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Lake Tahoe, only 30 minutes away, provides world-class skiing, hiking, and lakeside camping at sites like Nevada Beach Campground. History lovers can explore the Nevada State Museum and Nevada State Railroad Museum to learn about the area’s rich past. The city’s downtown features a mix of historic buildings, shops, and restaurants offering local flavors. The nearby Kit Carson Trail takes visitors on a walking tour of historic homes and landmarks. Kit Carson Campground is located in the Carson Ranger District, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest (40 min south of Carson City, NV) with an elevation of 6,860 feet. There are a total of 12 campsites including 3 tent-only sites. The campground is normally open from the end of April to the end of September. 2 sites can accommodate RVs between 28 and 45 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. Fees range from $18.00 to $22.00. Activities include biking, fishing, hiking trails.
